Albany just changed the math on energy policy, and it's a win for your wallet. 🔥

New York was using an aggressive emissions measuring formula that made our numbers look far worse than reality, and that inflated math was being used to justify expensive new regulations on your heating and electric bills. The new budget switches New York to the same common-sense standard used by most other states. Fairer math means fairer policy.

Could New York's electric grid handle a prolonged summer heat wave?

According to NYISO, the state's grid operator, extreme heat and rising electricity demand could create reliability challenges this summer.

As New York's energy needs continue to grow, ensuring reliable energy remains available when it's needed most should be a top priority.

New York just made a major move to protect energy consumers. 🔥

Governor Hochul signed off on significant changes to the state's 2019 climate law, and affordability was front and center. When New Yorkers pushed back on policies that threatened to send heating and electric bills through the roof, Albany listened. There's a lot to unpack here, and it directly affects what you pay every month.

Check back as we break down the key changes and what they mean for your wallet.

A recent opinion piece pointed out that while Governor Hochul is saying good things about trying to keep energy costs in check, there seems to be an unwillingness to recognize that the state's current climate law is incompatible with that goal.

New legislation aims to delay the state’s electric school bus mandate by five years, as concerns grow around cost, infrastructure, and reliability.

School districts say the price of electric buses and charging systems is significantly higher, and many are not equipped to support the transition.

There are also concerns about whether electric buses can meet the demands of daily routes and emergency situations.

As New York moves forward with major energy decisions, it is important to ensure policies are realistic, affordable, and able to meet the needs of the communities they impact.

Residents at Co-Op City in the Bronx are being warned that their monthly maintenance fees could rise from about $950 to more than $4,000.

These fees currently cover essentials like electricity, heat, hot water, and cooling through an efficient, on-site power system.

Under current mandates, that system would need to shut down by 2035. Officials estimate compliance could cost up to $1 billion and warn that alternatives cannot yet meet full demand.

How are New Yorkers supposed to afford this? Energy policy needs to be realistic. And, costs like this don’t pay for themselves.
