Today, on International Labour Day, we take a moment to appreciate the hands that are shaping the future.

At Shree Balkanth Basic School in Dhading, the progress is steadily taking form. The walls now stand complete, with door and window frames installed, giving the structure its first true sense of space. Work is actively underway on essential sanitation facilities, with excavation completed for the septic tank, soak pit, and toilet foundations. The plinth beam for the toilet block is currently in progress—another step closer to making the school fully functional for its students.

Behind every milestone are skilled workers, laborers, and community members whose dedication often goes unseen but never unvalued. Today, we celebrate their effort, resilience, and craftsmanship. This school exists because of them.

World Water Day – March 22
Rebuilding a school in Nepal is never just about bricks and classrooms. It’s about giving children a place where they can actually feel safe, healthy, and ready to grow.

And one of the quietest, most powerful parts of that? Clean water.

When a child walks into school and has access to safe drinking water, everything shifts. They get sick less often. They show up more. They can focus on learning instead of fighting off illness. It’s not complicated — but it changes everything.

At Kids of Kathmandu, we see clean water not as an add-on, but as a foundation — as non-negotiable as a roof or a desk.

Every school we help rebuild is a chance to get this right, for every child, in every corner of Nepal.

This World Water Day, let’s say it plainly:
Clean water in schools isn’t a luxury. It’s where education actually begins.

On the ground, progress continues - and the work hasn’t stopped.

Construction is steadily moving forward on our 12th and 13th school buildings. From laying foundations to raising walls, each step brings us closer to safe, permanent classrooms for children who need them most.

16 years in, Kids of Kathmandu is scaling its impact across Nepal.

We’re building our 12th and 13th schools and using adaptive AI to help teachers personalize learning for every student - even in the most remote regions.

This gives children access to the full national curriculum, real feedback, and learning plans tailored to their needs.

This work takes grit, knowledge, and computing power.
We’ve built the first two. Now we need help with the third.

Kids of Kathmandu, in collaboration with the Canadian International School (CIS), recently distributed custom-designed toys and stationery to students at Shree Kalika Devi Basic School in Makwanpur. These learning materials were created by students from CIS, making them especially meaningful, practical, and fun.

This effort is part of our ongoing mission to build a sustainable new school structure with four classrooms, toilets, and an open classroom, made possible through the generous support of Fundación Heres.

Here’s to shaping brighter, safer, and more inspiring spaces for children every day.
