Supporting the Needs of Families Caring for Children with both Emotional/Behavioral and Developmental Disabilities

Sometimes having a child who is dually diagnosed with both behavioral and developmental disabilities can be extremely overwhelming. We will explore the various resources to meet those unique needs.

Is There One-Stop Shopping for What you Need? Oh Don’t You Wish!!

Weren’t you given the “Guide to All Programs and Services” when your child was diagnosed? No? That’s because it doesn’t exist, but this workshop will come pretty close!!!

You Have an Evaluation: So Now What?

The first step in getting appropriate services for a child with a disability is getting a valid and reliable evaluation. Great! Now that you have it, what do you do with it? How can you utilize it to obtain both educational, social service and all other benefits and entitlements. How do you know the evaluation truly reflects all your child’s needs, abilities and areas that need support. These and other issues will be explored.

When I’m Gone, Then What?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a crystal ball that works so I could see my adult child’s future when I am no longer here. Sadly, they don’t exist so we must plan, research, link with organizations that can help and deal with the stress in a positive and proactive way. This session will help with all those issues.

Heroes and Role Models

It is important to see yourself reflected in history and in the world. Children, teens and adults with disabilities have often been neglected when it comes to representation in the media, in history books, in movies and TV. Growing up, how wonderful it would be for parents to be able to share with their child who has a disability, people with their disability who made a positive impact on this world. This session will focus on those heroes and role models so families can then empower their child with a disability by sharing this often neglected part of history and life
