Take Action!: https://www.votervoice.net/EPISCOPAL/Campaigns/129526/Respond
In 2024, the United States faced 27 separate natural disasters that caused more than $1 billion each in damages and claimed hundreds of lives. Climate change is making such disasters even more frequent and severe. Recent cuts across the federal government threaten to undermine our nation’s ability to prepare for and respond to these crises.
This year, critical agencies—including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Weather Service (NWS), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)—have lost key personnel responsible for informing, coordinating, and funding disaster relief nationwide and have experienced budget cuts or had resources for disaster response diverted.
As fire and hurricane seasons are underway, we call upon the federal government to ensure these agencies continue to be equipped to warn of the risk of natural disasters and provide essential support for community recovery. In this urgent moment, we invite you to join us in calling on Congress to safeguard disaster aid.
