La Sala de Pepe y Foto Espacio & Loisaida Inc. in partnership with The Village Trip
invite you to a celebration of the Life, the Death, and the ‘Resurrection’ of Zoe Anderson Norris, Lower East Side resident, ‘muckraking’ journalist, publisher of The East Side ‘magazinelet’, poet, clairvoyant, social justice activist on behalf of the poor and the immigrant, and founder/head hostess of The Ragged Edge Klub- a space where ‘artists, authors, aviators, composers, dancers, musicians, physicians, politicians, singers, theater producers’ and others, living on the ‘ragged edges’ of society themselves, could defy the rules and hierarchies of the Gilded Age.

There will be cocktails, mocktails, signed books, tiaras, music by D.J. Pepe Flores, a presentation of Zoe Anderson Norris’s life and works and an extraordinary panel of contemporary ‘Queens of Bohemia’ in conversation with Eve Kahn.

We’re still dreaming about this weekend! Huge thanks to everyone who came out and held it down with us. The energy was pure magic.

We were blown away by the phenomenal talent and sound:

🎤 , , & brought the soul of La Sala to us!
🎹 .chiesa & had us singing along for our querido Borikén with powerful vocals and beautiful piano.
🎶 ’s one-man jíbaro melodies got everyone on their feet and dancing!

A massive thank you to for an intimate and powerful conversation with Pepe Flores as he shared his story, and to for the crucial reminder: we gather not only to celebrate our culture, but to fuel the grassroots organizations on the ground in Puerto Rico. And for : thank you for your flyer artwork, impromptu DJing and for making sure everyone felt supported all night.

And none of this would be possible without ! We are endlessly grateful for a space that builds community. Thank you for providing a space that feels like home, to the very talented Natasha for the incredible specialty cocktails, and for your unwavering support. You are a vital part of our ecosystem.

And of course, thank you to everyone who came out! We ended the night by dancing to the best of Benito and classic Salsa hits.

We’d love to hear from you, what was your favorite part of the night? Tell us in the comments!

We’re raising funds to purchase two barilles (Bomba drums) that will be owned and shared by the community! These drums will be a cornerstone of our biweekly batéy gatherings at the 5C Cultural Center, located at 68 Loisaida Ave, New York, NY 10009.

Why This Matters:
Bomba is a powerful form of cultural expression, resistance, and community connection. By coming together every other Friday for a batéy, we’ll celebrate Puerto Rican tradition, foster unity, and create a safe space for learning and joy.

Our Vision:
These barilles will be permanently housed at La Sala de Pepe, a vital cultural hub in Loisaida. Having community-owned drums ensures that these gatherings are sustainable and accessible for everyone. With your help, we can keep this rich tradition alive and thriving in our neighborhood.
