International Women's Day is celebrated every year today on March 8. It is a global day when women, the UN, and the world celebrate women's achievements and their role as agents of change in advancing gender equality.
The theme for 2026 is “Rights. Justice. Action.
For ALL Women and Girls” (UN observance), calling for urgent action to dismantle barriers to equal justice, including discriminatory laws, weak protections, harmful norms, and persistent violence against women and girls.
An alarming gender gap in access to justice Women worldwide enjoy only about 64% of the legal rights afforded to men, exposing them to discrimination, violence, and exclusion.
On this day, we honor the ongoing fight for gender equality and Myanmar women's rights and freedom from any violence. It reminds us to amplify global efforts, but real progress requires daily commitment—not just one annual event.
Sone Yay's daily work for equal access to justice continues far beyond International Women's Day.
Myanmar's conflict and displacement contexts—where structural barriers, harmful norms, violences and discriminatory systems block women's and girls' access to legal protection—we, Sone Ya y target those affected by GBV through grassroots community justice:
🌷Bystander workshops (2 per month since 2025 IWD)
🌷Love language Sunday practice circle (once per week on rights based small talks communication sessions and advocacy training
Storytelling
🌷GBV awareness workshops led by ground project leads, focusing on Monywa and Sagaing regions (starting 2025 and ongoing)
These build zero tolerance for violence, denormalize abuse, and empower women and girls to respond and seek support.
🌷Our women dignity kits distribution builds daily solidarity:

🌷300 kits every Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28), ongoing since 2023
These need-based distributions every other month via small grants to community groups, ground project leads, and direct requests
From 2023–2025, we've reached over 1,800 women and girls. These go beyond supplies—they unite women to discuss issues, share stories, celebrate together, and stand strong against injustice, fostering community resilience every day.
Current challenges in Myanmar
Women and girls face severe gaps in justice access due to absent rule of law, military restrictions (e.g., pads classified as restricted items, leading to checkpoints, excessive fines, confiscation, and destruction—used as a weaponized tactic), skyrocketing prices (up to 3x normal), and desperate alternatives like using old clothes. This violates human rights, constitutes gender-based persecution, and denies basic dignity and health needs—especially for frontline workers, conflict-affected areas, and IDP camps.

တရားမျှတမှု ရရှိရေးတွင် ကြီးမားသော ကွာဟချက်
ကမ္ဘာတစ်ဝန်း အမျိုးသမီးများသည် အမျိုးသားများရရှိသော ဥပဒေအခွင့်အရေး၏ ၆၄% ခန့်သာ ရရှိထားပြီး ခွဲခြားဆက်ဆံမှု၊ အကြမ်းဖက်မှုနှင့် ဖယ်ထုတ်ခံရမှုများကို ရင်ဆိုင်နေရသည်။
ဤနေ့တွင် လိင်တန်းတူရေးနှင့် အမျိုးသမီးအခွင့်အရေး ဆက်လက်တိုက်ပွဲဝင်နေမှုကို ဂုဏ်ပြုပါသည်။ ကမ္ဘာလုံးဆိုင်ရာ ကြိုးပမ်းမှုများကို မြှင့်တင်ရန် သတိပေးသော်လည်း စစ်မှန်သော တိုးတက်မှုအတွက် နေ့စဉ်ကတိကဝတ်အနေဖြင့် ကျွန်မတို့ လိုအပ်သည်မှာ နှစ်ပတ်လည် အခမ်းအနားတစ်ခုတည်းမဟုတ်ပါ။

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံ၏ ပဋိပက္ခများနှင့် ရွှေ့ပြောင်းနေရသော အခြေအနေများတွင် တည်ဆောက်ပုံ အတားအဆီးများ၊ အန္တရာယ်ရှိသော လူမှုစံနှုန်းများနှင့် ခွဲခြားဆက်ဆံရေး ဥပဒေများကြောင့် အမျိုးသမီးနှင့် မိန်းကလေးများ ဥပဒေရေးရာ ကာကွယ်မှု ရရှိရေး အခက်အခဲများရှိနေပါသည်။ ထို့ကြောင့် ကျွန်မတို့ စုန်ရေသည် GBV ခံစားရသူများနှင့် အတူလက်တွဲကာ လူမှုအသိုင်းအဝိုင်း တရားမျှတမှု လုပ်ငန်းများ ဆောင်ရွက်နေပါသည်။

တစ်ဦးချင်းတိုင်ပင်ဆွေးနွေးမျှဝေနိုင်သော Tharman Luu Grassroots Collective facebook group platform နှင့် GBV ဆိုင်ရာ အသိပညာပေးဆွေးနွေးပွဲများအား (၂၀၂၅ မှ စတင်ကာ မုံရွာ၊ စစ်ကိုင်းဒေသများတွင် ကွင်းဆင်းပရောဂျက်ဦးဆောင်သူများမှ) ဦးဆောင်ဆောင်ရွက်ခဲ့ပါသည်။
ဤလုပ်ငန်းများသည် အကြမ်းဖက်မှုကို လက်မခံ၊ အလွဲသုံးစားမှုကို ပုံမှန်မဟုတ်ကြောင်း ငြင်းပယ်ပြီး အမျိုးသမီးနှင့် မိန်းကလေးများကို ခွန်အားဖြည့်ပေးစေပါသည်။

မြန်မာနိုင်ငံရှိ လက်ရှိ စိန်ခေါ်မှုများ
စစ်အုပ်စုက အမျိုးသမီးသုံး pad များကို တားမြစ်ပစ္စည်းစာရင်းထည့်ကာ စစ်ဆေးရေးဂိတ်များတွင် အဆမတန် ဒဏ်ငွေ ရိုက်ခြင်း၊ မတရားသိမ်းဆည်းခြင်း၊ ဖျက်ဆီးခြင်းဖြင့် လက်နက်သဖွယ် အသုံးချနေသည်။ ထို့ကြောင့်ပင် Pad ဈေးနှုန်းများသည် ပုံမှန်ထက် ၃ ဆ အထိ မြင့်တက်နေပြီး အချို့နေရာများတွင် ထမီ ပုဆိုး အဟောင်းများကို ဖြတ်ညှပ်အသုံးပြုနေရသည်။ ဤလုပ်ရပ်များသည် လူသားဂုဏ်သိက္ခာ၊ ကျန်းမာရေး အခြေခံလိုအပ်ချက်များကို ဖိနှိပ်ရုံသာမက လူ့အခွင့်အရေး ပြင်းထန်စွာ ချိုးဖောက်ပြီး လိင်အခြေခံ ဖိနှိပ်မှု (gender-based persecution) ဖြစ်သည်။ ရှေ့တန်း၊ နောက်တန်း စစ်မြေပြင်များနှင့် စစ်ဘေးရှောင်စခန်းများတွင် အမျိုးသမီးများ အများအပြား ရှိနေသည်။ ၎င်းတို့သည်လည်း အမျိုးသမီးများနည်းတူ တစ်ကိုယ်ရည်သုံးပစ္စည်းများ လိုအပ်လျှက်ရှိပါသည်။
🌷ပါဝင်လှူဒါန်းနိုင်မည့် အခွင့်အလမ်း
“လ န ခ ယ” လှူရင် ကုသိုလ်မဖြစ်မည်ကို စိုးရိမ်သူများအတွက် အမျိုးသမီးလစဉ်သုံး ပစ္စည်းများ(pad အပါအဝင်)အား လှူဒါန်းနိုင်ပါသည်။
