As Social Work month approaches, Social Workers for Justice, in collaboration with NASW-NYS, is excited to extend a special invitation to you for a special webinar on the Social Work Workforce Act (A5291/S5975). We will present Matt DeCarlo and Mary Nienow, researchers from Open Social Work, who have studied the intricate workings of ASWB and the licensing exam, unearthing evidence about the pass rate disparities for social workers of color and the implications for the communities social workers serve.The research has important implications for the State’s plans to ameliorate our crises in mental health, addiction, homelessness, and immigration by expanding and diversifying the social work workforce. Join us for a webinar on March 6th from 6-7pm, for this special presentation and to explore the implications for our legislative agenda. The session will be moderated by Luisa Lopez, President of the Latino Social Workers Coalition, and Jessica Mitchell, assistant clinical professor at Stony Brook University.

The Social Work Workforce Act (Assembly Bill A05291 and Senate Bill S5975) will leave in place all other State requirements for licensure and simply strike out the need to pass the ASWB exam because of its long and national track record of racial disparities.
