Youth homelessness is often hidden in broader conversations about housing policy.

Yet young people experiencing housing instability face unique developmental, social, and economic challenges that require targeted solutions.

On June 25, the Fund for the City of New York's Center for Youth & the Future of Work and Safe Horizon will convene leaders, practitioners, advocates, and policymakers for a discussion on what is working and what still needs to change to help young people access stable, permanent housing.

Together, we'll explore:
β€’ Emerging trends in youth homelessness
β€’ Systemic barriers facing young people
β€’ Proven strategies supporting successful housing outcomes
β€’ Opportunities for stronger cross-sector collaboration

This week, the Fund for the City of New York, and the Center for Youth & the Future of Work proudly welcomed 35 interns to our flagship Summer Internship Program.

During orientation, interns participated in a strengths-based leadership development training designed to help them maximize their internship experience and prepare for future career success. Representing high school, undergraduate, and graduate programs, these talented young adults will spend the next eight weeks embedded across our partner organizations, contributing to meaningful projects that strengthen organizational capacity and advance mission-driven work.

From project management and research to data analysis, communications, human resources, and event coordination, our interns will gain hands-on experience while making valuable contributions to New York City's nonprofit sector. We are honored to help cultivate the next generation of leaders and provide transformative opportunities for young people to explore impactful careers in public service and the nonprofit world.

Good policy starts with good data. When affordability measures become too broad, it can be harder to identify the specific pressures driving hardship and harder to design effective solutions.

In his latest op-ed, FCNY EVP Aldrin Bonilla argues that clarity and precision are essential if we want to make New York more affordable.

When we talk about affordability, what are we actually measuring?

Housing. Childcare. Food. Transportation. Healthcare.

A true cost of living benchmark helps us understand what it really costs for families to meet their basic needs before assistance or intervention. That clarity helps policymakers identify solutions that address root causes.
