Last week, the Fund for the City of New York convened our Executive Leadership Summit at the Rhodes House at Oxford, creating space for leaders to step away from the everyday and come together in community.

At the heart of the week was a shared belief that leadership is deeply human. It is shaped by culture, strengthened through relationships, and sustained by the communities we build around us. Through rigorous training and intellectual challenge, alongside reflection, art, and shared experiences, we pushed one another to think differently about how we lead and the cultures we create.

Special thank you to our esteemed guests, Dr. Luis Fraga, Dr. Bernard Harris, Louis Carr, and Gisele C. Shorter; our exceptional culture carrier Rob DeLeon; and our FCNY team Dr. Lisette Nieves, Dr. Noel Anderson, Dr. Janelle Viruet, Dr. Aldrin Bonilla, Will Rahardjo, and Nathalie Garcia, whose leadership and dedication made this week possible.

We leave Oxford grateful for the community built this week and for the reminder that how we gather, challenge, listen, and learn from one another is an essential part of how we lead. Last week, The Center for Youth and the Future of Work had to privilege to partner with Achieve Atlanta and welcome 12 of their college advisory committee scholars to the Rhodes House for a transformative seminar focused on leadership, learning, and global engagement.

Together, we immersed ourselves in the rich culture, history, and arts of Oxford while engaging in thoughtful discussions on research, leadership, and the challenges and opportunities we face. Most importantly, we built meaningful connections and a strong sense of fellowship that will continue long after the seminar concluded.

A special thank you to Cheryl Watson-Harris, Bria Price, and Donielle Dixon for their partnership and commitment to creating this experience. We are also deeply grateful to Lisette Nieves, Noel Anderson, Janelle Viruet, and Nathalie Garcia for their outstanding leadership and ex*****on in bringing this program to life.

Our President, Dr. Lisette Nieves joined Assembly Member Amanda Septimo, fellow community leaders, and our funding partners, Hispanic Federation and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, in the Bronx for the first stop of the NYS LUCHA Initiative press tour, highlighting the $11.3 million secured for the Bronx as part of the initiative’s $30 million investment.

Dr. Nieves states:
“At the Fund for the City of New York, we know that strong communities are built on trusted neighborhood organizations. Through LUCHA, these organizations can expand opportunity, remove barriers to success, and transform public investment into lasting community impact. Our research on the True Cost of Living shows that affordability pressures remain especially acute in neighborhoods like the South Bronx, reinforcing why investments in nonprofit capacity are so essential. When we invest in organizations that have earned the trust of their communities, we strengthen the nonprofit sector and build a more equitable New York."

We would like to especially recognize Assembly Members, Amanda Septimo and Karines Reyes, whose vision and leadership helped conceive and champion the LUCHA Equity Fund, transforming an ambitious idea into a statewide investment in community leadership, thank you.

The Fund is pleased to welcome Gregg Bishop to our Board of Directors.

Gregg Bishop brings deep experience advancing economic mobility, strengthening small businesses, expanding workforce opportunity, and investing in communities across New York City. His leadership and perspective will be a meaningful addition as we continue working to improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to three exceptional board members who have completed their board service: Georgia Boothe, Dr. Ester Fuchs, and Dr. Linda Lausell Bryant.

Dr. Fuchs' expertise in urban policy and civic innovation, Ms. Boothe's leadership in child welfare and family services, and Dr. Lausell Bryant's decades of work strengthening social work leadership and youth-serving systems have each helped shape and strengthen our mission.

We are grateful for their service, leadership, and commitment to the Fund and to New York City.

Great STEM teachers do more than teach formulas, labs, and lessons. They help students build confidence, discover new possibilities, and imagine futures in science, math, technology, engineering, and beyond.

Last week, Global Kids, in partnership with the New York City Office of Neighborhood Safety Youth Leadership Council, brought together more than 150 young people for the Sixth Annual Youth Summit, centered on Economic Mobility.

Designed by youth, for youth, the Summit created space for leadership, learning, reflection, and action, highlighting the work young people are doing to strengthen their communities, advance safety and justice, and imagine more stable, opportunity-rich futures.

Fund Executive Vice President, Aldrin Rafael Bonilla, served as keynote speaker, offering a powerful message about recognizing the leadership young people already bring to their communities by investing in themselves.
