St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Harlem

St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Harlem St. Mary’s is a small, very active congregation that supports a host of community activities and services.

WE ARE NOT AFRAID... to work for justice and peace for the poor and oppressed; pray and care for the sick, lonely and at risk; protect and tend to God’s earth as its loving stewards and to have a bit of fun while we’re at it... Something is happening every day and every night and we love to involve new people. The ministries many church members are involved with include a Client Choice Food Pan

try (on Mondays), a Saturday Outreach Mobile Soup Kitchen, and a Friday Movie Night social with food; 5 days per week mail service for those with no secure address, and a 7 night per week Shelter for homeless refugee men and transgender people. A team of staff, interns and approximately 40 regular volunteers sustain these ministries. Mary’s also hosts six different 12 Step meetings, a weekly support group for persons recently incarcerated, a free weekly medical/dental clinic, and – to promote wellness – a twice weekly Tai Chi class. Please click on “calendar” above to find out specific information. We are part of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, and The Episcopal Church, as well as the world-wide Anglican Communion.

The story of some St. Mary’s members’ resting place!

Friday, August 21 | 6:30 PM | Schomburg Center: For two centuries, the Harlem African Burial Ground was a place where New Yorkers of African descent were laid to rest. Over time, the history of this site was lost—erased by the subsequent redevelopment of the site. The Harlem African Burial Ground project seeks to right this wrong, by honoring and memorializing this historic site with a new outdoor memorial and indoor cultural education center while also addressing affordable housing and jobs needs in the East Harlem community. Hear more about the story through a public screening of the Unearthing Our Legacy Together documentary film. https://nycedc.formstack.com/forms/habg_documentary_screening

St. Mary’s 2nd Tent Revival yesterday- it was actually pleasant under the shade of the tent, we fed the community, and listened and prayed for the world we want to live in. Hallelujah, thine the glory!
