🗓️ Mark your calendars - we will be back at City Hall on Sat Oct 3rd to mobilize against Speaker Menin to pass the No More 24 bill.

“We women have been belittled for such a long time, our care work is even more devalued”

The 24-hr workday represents just how much our system and leaders like Speaker Julie Menin belittle women and care work, to the point that home care workers’ health and lives are destroyed through 24-hr shifts. Speaker Julie Menin shame on you, if you do not pass the No More 24 act, you will go down in history as the woman who tortures other women.

HUNGER STRIKE DAY 8: home care workers concluded their hunger strike yesterday and announced they will return for a big protest October 3rd against Speaker Julie Menin. They announced big wins from the hunger strike - Governor Kathy Hochul’s DOL reopening all illegally closed wage theft cases for union workers, unwgdawg_ sending their allegation letter directly to the NYC government, and the whole world uniting against Speaker Julie Menin’s sexist violence. We will be back October 3rd and will unite the entire city to end the 24 hr workday.

Thank you to everyone who came out, supported, and donated to the hunger strike!! Stay tuned on ways to join the organizing in the coming months.

HUNGER STRIKE DAY 6 RECAP: hundreds gathered yesterday to call out Speaker Julie Menin’s sexist violence against women. The 24 hr workday exists because of how undervalued care work is - to the point that caregivers’ health and lives are destroyed! Speaker Julie Menin shame on you for continuing this torture.

Thank you to everyone who came out to speak and support!

Helena’s speech from the People’s Hearing on Wed Jul 29th. “Caretakers carry an enormous burden in our healthcare system and in our society. They are often the first to notice when a patient’s condition changes. They are on the front lines of patient safety. So why are we allowing insurance companies to exploit these essential workers? Why are we accepting a system that creates even more suffering?”

Lydian’s speech from the People’s Hearing on Wed Jul 29th! “We can allow a broken, privatized, profitized healthcare system to hyper exploit our workers and our patients, or we can draw the boundaries that force the state to address our crisis.”
