Industrial octopus farming is an emerging threat to animals and the environment, and corporations are trying desperately to make it happen. But we’re fighting back.

Here’s how you can join the fight:

NEW in City and State NY: New York can stop filling its parks with doomed "pet" birds 🦜

Every month, New Yorkers report dozens of escaped or abandoned parrots and parakeets. None are native to NYC, and few can survive our winters. ❄️

These birds come from pet stores stocked by out-of-state breeding mills, where thousands are kept in cramped, dirty cages. New York can't regulate a warehouse in Oklahoma or Texas, but we can cut off the demand that keeps the mills in business. ✂️

That's what Intro 912 does. Led by Council Member and Animal Welfare Caucus Chair Harvey Epstein, the bill would end the sale of birds in NYC pet stores while keeping adoption wide open. With local rescues overwhelmed and parrots living up to 80 years, it can't come soon enough. 💜🧡
