Щороку українці в усьому світі долучаються до написання Всеукраїнського радіодиктанту національної єдности. Та через різницю в часі не кожен має змогу написати його наживо разом з Україною.
Тому ми запрошуємо вас написати український диктант разом у Нью-Йорку! Вже цієї суботи ви матимете нагоду перевірити свої знання рідної мови та відчути єдність української спільноти.
Текст диктанту буде зачитано наживо. І зовсім неважливо, наскільки впевнено ви пишете українською, — головне, що ми зберемося разом, аби підтримати нашу мову та продовжити цю традицію.

🎻 У суботу, 17 жовтня, відбувся чудовий вечір класичної музики, який об’єднав творчість видатних українських композиторів Максима Березовського (1745–1777) та Дмитра Бортнянського (1751–1825) із музичними шедеврами Йоганна Себастьяна Баха.
Скрипалька Соломія Івахів та клавесиніст Ендрю Розенблюм представили захопливу програму, поєднавши твори українських композиторів із безсмертною музикою епохи бароко.
Вечір відбувся за щедрої підтримки родини Тарнавських💙💛

🎻 On Saturday, October 17, a wonderful evening of classical music brought together the works of distinguished Ukrainian composers Maksym Berezovskyi (1745–1777) and Dmytro Bortnianskyi (1751–1825) with the musical masterpieces of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv and harpsichordist Andrew Rosenblum presented a captivating program, pairing works by Ukrainian composers with the timeless music of the Baroque era.

🎶В суботу, 17 жовтня в Українському музеї сучасний український митець Миколай Карабінович представив дослідження «Від "New Order" до "Орлика"», присвячене перетину історії постпанку, музичних архівів та української діаспори.
Відправною точкою його виступу стало відео концерту гурту New Order 1981 року, знятого в Українському народному домі в Нью-Йорку. Концерт розпочався на тлі портрета Тараса Шевченка, що стало промовистим прикладом взаємодії попкультури та культурної спадщини української діаспори.
Миколай Карабінович представив свої дослідження музичної пам’яти, зокрема співпрацю з фольклорним ансамблем Orlyk із Манчестера. Він розмірковував над тим, як звукові архіви та уявна пам’ять сприяють формуванню колективної солідарности між поколіннями, розділеними вимушеним переселенням

🎶On October 17, at Ukrainian museum an Ukrainian contemporary artist Nikolay Karabinovych examined the convergence of post-punk history, musical archives, and the Ukrainian diaspora, "From "New Order" to "Orlyk".
He spoke of departure from a 1981 New Order concert video filmed at the Ukrainian National Home in New York, where the performance opened under a portrait of Taras Shevchenko, explored how pop culture and diaspora heritage intersect.
Karabinovych presented his research into musical memory, including his collaboration with Manchester’s Orlyk folk ensemble, reflecting on how sonic archives and speculative memory fostered collective solidarity across generations of displacement

📚Неділя 4 жовтня, видалась багатою на події. Також в цей день союзянки 1го відділу були присутні на презентації антології сучасної української новелістики «Мереживо долі або Вишиванка» (видавництво «Швайпольт Фіоль»). Модераторкою зустрічі була Соломія Ушневич, освітня референтка Округи Нью-Йорк СУА.
У заході взяли участь гості з Кракова: віцеголова Фундації св. Володимира Хрестителя Київської Руси Петро Ничик, головний редактор Олег Алексійчук і керівниця культурних проєктів Юлія Перегуда. Також на зустріч завітла Ірина Ясінська - перекладачка книги на англійську мову.
📖 Книга об’єднує 40 невеликих новел. Новела - саме цей жанр був обраний для цієї книги, адже саме він дозволяє показати переломний момент у житті героя -мить, що змінює його, змушує переосмислити себе та світ. Деякі історії можуть здаватися вигаданими, хоча, нажаль, ґрунтуються на реальних подіях. Тому під час перекладу було надзвичайно важливо зберегти емоційну глибину та зміст, закладені авторами в кожну історію.
🎨 Особливе місце посіла й ілюстрація до книги, на яку дуже чекали. Її створювали в Харкові під час ракетних обстрілів. Вона символізує перехід від темряви до яскравого, барвистого життя - образ надії, відродження та незламності українців 💙💛

📚 Sunday, October 4, was a day full of events. On this day, members of UNWLA Branch 1 also attended the presentation of “Embroidered of Fate: the Vyshyvanka,” a trilingual anthology of contemporary Ukrainian short stories published by Shvaypolt Fiol.
The event was moderated by Solomiia Ushnevych, Education Chair of the UNWLA New York Council.
Attendees included guests from Kraków: Petro Nychyk, Vice President of the St. Volodymyr Foundation of Kyivan Rus; Oleh Aleksiichuk, editor-in-chief; and Yuliia Perehuda, Head of Cultural Projects. Iryna Yasinska, the English translator of the book, also joined the event.
📖 The book brings together 40 short stories. The short-story genre was chosen because it captures a turning point in a character’s life - a moment that changes them and prompts them to reconsider themselves and the world around them. Some stories may seem fictional, yet they, unfortunately, are based on real events. This made preserving the emotional depth and meaning woven into each story especially important during translation.
🎨 The book’s illustration, which everyone had eagerly awaited, also holds special significance. It was created in Kharkiv during russian missile attacks. The image symbolizes a transition from darkness to a bright, colorful life - a powerful expression of hope, renewal, and the resilience of the Ukrainian people 💙💛

🇺🇦 В неділю, 4 жовтня у Брукліні відзначили 10-річчя школи українознавства «Нова Хвилька» під символічним гаслом «Будуймо майбутнє разом!»
За ці десять років школа пройшла великий шлях: від перших 60–65 дітей до близько 600 учнів сьогодні. За цією цифрою - сотні українських родин, учителів, батьків і дітей, які щотижня творять українське середовище далеко від України. Головна мета «Нової Хвильки» — не лише навчити дітей української мови, а й зберегти їхній зв’язок з Україною, її історією, культурою та традиціями, сформувати відчуття приналежности до української громади.
Союзянка 1го відділу, Алла Умарова, яка є викладачем у цій школі, передала щирі привітання "Новій Хвильці" від Союзу Українок Америки 💎
Однією з головних цілей заходу був збір коштів для створення українського освітньо-культурного центру для дітей і дорослих - простору, де можна буде навчатися, зустрічатися, розвивати українську культуру та гуртувати громаду.
600 дітей сьогодні - це майбутнє української громади завтра. А створення власного освітньо-культурного центру - це інвестиція в те, щоб це майбутнє залишалося українським.
Будуймо його разом! 💙💛

🇺🇦 On Sunday, October 4, the Ukrainian Heritage School Nova Khvylka in Brooklyn celebrated its 10th anniversary under the symbolic motto, “Let’s Build the Future Together!”
Over the past decade, the school has come a long way - from its first 60–65 children to approximately 600 students today. Behind this number are hundreds of Ukrainian families, teachers, parents, and children who come together every week to nurture a Ukrainian environment far from their homeland.
Nova Khvylka’s mission is not only to teach children the Ukrainian language, but also to preserve their connection to Ukraine, its history, culture, and traditions, while fostering a sense of belonging to the Ukrainian community.
💎 Alla Ua, a member of UNWLA Branch 1 and a teacher at the school, conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Nova Khvylka on behalf of the UNWLA.
One of the event’s main goals was to raise funds to establish a Ukrainian educational and cultural center for children and adults - a space where people can learn, connect, develop Ukrainian culture, and strengthen the community.
600 children today represent the future of the Ukrainian community tomorrow. And creating a dedicated educational and cultural center is an investment in ensuring that this future remains Ukrainian.

🎹 On October 4, members of UNWLA Branch 1 performed as part of the Women’s Choral Capella of the UNWLA New York Regional Council, under the direction of Alla Rodina, at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church in New York. The accompanist was Lyubov Shmolokha.
The choir performed five musical pieces filled with spirituality, beauty, and love for Ukraine:

🖼 В суботу, 3 жовтня союзянки 1 відділу відвідали відкриття виставки «Діалог міжпоколінь», організованої Borshch of Art у співпраці з Науковим товариством ім. Шевченка в Америці (НТШа) у Нью-Йорку.
На виставці були представлені роботи видатних українсько-американських митців із мистецької колекції НТШа, зокрема Олександра Архипенка, Якова Гніздовського, Едварда Козака, Романа Пачовського, Михайла Мороза, Володимира Ласовського, Петра Андрусіва та Богдана Боржемського. Подія стала чудовою нагодою ближче познайомитися з українською мистецькою спадщиною та її збереженням у діаспорі.
Кураторками виставки стали Анастасія Гудко та Фанфан Юсюань Фан, за участі Маї Школьник та Ірини Бородін.
Щиро дякуємо організаторам за працю задля збереження української культурної спадщини!

🖼 On Saturday, October 3, members of UNWLA Branch 1 attended the opening of the exhibition “Intergenerational Dialogue,” organized by Borshch of Art in collaboration with the Shevchenko Scientific Society in America (SSS) in New York. The exhibition featured works by distinguished Ukrainian-American artists from the SSS art collection, including Alexander Archipenko, Jacques Hnizdovsky, Edvard Kozak, Roman Patchovskyi, Mykhailo Moroz, Volodymyr Lasovsky, Petro Andrusiv and Bohdan Borzemsky. The event offered a wonderful opportunity to explore Ukrainian artistic heritage and its preservation within the diaspora.
The exhibition was curated by Anastasia Gudko and Fanfan Yuxuan Fan, with contributions from Maya Shkolnik and Iryna Makukh-Borodin.
We sincerely thank the organizers for their work in preserving Ukrainian cultural heritage!

У вівторок, 29 вересня ми відвідали дослідницьку презентацію «Філіп Ґастон про Одесу та Чорне море», організовану Borshch of Art в історичному мистецькому просторі Salmagundi Club. Під час зустрічі мали нагоду почути цікаву та пізнавальну інформацію від спікерок Наталії Ревко та Ксенії Нуріл про творчість художника та його зв’язок з Одесою. Наша союзянка Ірина Бородін також долучилася до проєкту, працюючи над дизайном обкладинки та підготовкою дослідницького видання до друку.
Щиро дякуємо організаторам за таку цікаву та змістовну подію!

On Tuesday, September 29, we attended “Philip Guston on Odesa and the Black Sea,” a research presentation organized by Borshch of Art at the historic art venue of Salmagundi Club. We had the opportunity to hear fascinating insights from speakers Natalia Revko and Ksenia Nouril about the artist’s work and his connection to Odesa. Our member, Iryna Makukh-Borodin, also contributed to the project by designing the publication’s cover and preparing the research paper for print.

On October 1, 2026, on the Feast of the Protection of the Holy Theotokos (Pokrova) and Ukrainian Defenders Day, the regular meeting of the New York Regional Council of the UNWLA took place.
The meeting began with a Moment of Silence in honor of the fallen heroes who are fighting for the freedom and independence of their homeland.
💎 A special part of the meeting was the participation of UNWLA National President Natalie Pavlenko, who shared highlights from her recent working visit to Ukraine. Ms. Pavlenko represented the Ukrainian-American women’s diaspora in Lviv at the Third International Assembly “Ukrainian Woman in the World: New Challenges – New Leadership,” named in honor of Anna Kisil. The main purpose of the visit was to strengthen cooperation in the areas of volunteerism, charitable initiatives, and cultural and educational projects.
🏥 Ms. Pavlenko emphasized UNWLA’s strong humanitarian mission. In particular, $100,000 was donated to the I. I. Mechnikov Dnipropetrovsk Regional Clinical Hospital, along with substantial assistance in the form of medicines and medical care supplies.
🧸 Ms. Pavlenko also shared important news: UNWLA will serve as the official provider for the two-month nationwide fundraising campaign “Children Pray for Children,” aimed at supporting the return home and comprehensive rehabilitation of Ukrainian children abducted and forcibly deported by russia.
🏛 In addition, Natalie Pavlenko shared her impressions of participating in the Ukraine Action Summit in Washington, D.C., where the UNWLA delegation strongly advocated for critical issues concerning Ukraine’s future and the protection of the Ukrainianians.
Oksana Zhukof, Head of the New York Regional Council, presented a summary of the district’s active September campaign, thanked the members for their dedicated work, and officially introduced Maria Betsa, the newly elected Head of UNWLA Branch 21, wishing her inspiration and success in her new position of responsibility.
🎭The meeting also featured an announcement of a new cultural and artistic collaboration with Moloko in support of the one-woman theatrical performance “Kyivska Perepichka,” starring renowned Ukrainian actress Irma Vitovska.
Thank you to every UNWLA member for your tireless work, patriotism, and dedication to our shared mission.
