We are delighted to announce a substantial contribution that enriches our institution. Dr. Raj Yavatkar (‘80 ECE), an esteemed alumnus, has generously donated $1.6 million USD to support the construction of a Student Academic Center. This center will serve as a dynamic hub of innovation and research, providing students with essential resources for groundbreaking R&D projects. It will serve as a platform for students to foster a vibrant community centered on collaboration and learning.

As a distinguished IEEE Fellow and a leading authority in networking, Dr. Yavatkar's impressive achievements include over 50 patents, co-authorship of five Internet standards, numerous publications in esteemed academic journals, and authorship of the book "Inside the Internet's Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP)." Currently, he serves as the Chief Technology Officer at Juniper Networks, a renowned networking systems and services vendor. Additionally, he shares his expertise as an advisor and early investor in multiple startups.

Dr. Yavatkar's motivation for this significant contribution stems from his profound appreciation for the transformative impact of IIT (BHU) on his life. He recognizes that the Institute not only laid the foundation for his exceptional engineering journey but also instilled in him invaluable qualities such as leadership, effective communication, and a willingness to take calculated risks.

The IIT (BHU) Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Sagar Bhimavarapu as its
new CEO.

Sagar brings a wealth of experience and passion to the IIT (BHU) Foundation and is committed to furthering
its mission of enabling IIT (BHU)’s transformation into a trendsetting pioneer of technical education over the
next century.

After 30 years on Wall Street, where Sagar worked for various investment banks in New York in senior roles
specializing in sales & trading of fixed income products, he recently retired to focus on other passions &
interests. Sagar graduated from IIT (BHU) in 1988 with a B.Tech in Electronics Engineering & earned his MBA
in Finance from Tulane University in 1992. Sagar is very passionate about giving back to his alma mater.

IIT (BHU) is back with the 84th edition of Asia’s oldest Techno-Management Fest, the Technex, IIT (BHU) Varanasi.

This year, the annual technical fest shall be held from 17th to 19th March, and in offline mode!
With its multitude of events in fascinating domains, Technex is designed to empower the new generation with the technologies and skills of the future.
Some of the events organized under Technex 2023 are:

Kashiyatra, the annual sociocultural feat of IIT(BHU), Varanasi returned with flying colors. After a tremendous wait of 2 years, the 40th edition of the fest was organized in offline mode. KY’23 with the theme “Safarnama: A Mystical Vogye” took place from 20th Jan to 22nd Jan 2023.

The first edition of KY was held in the year 1981. Over the years KY witnessed tremendous growth. Over the years many prominent singers, models, and influencers like Ustad Bismillah Khan, Javed Ali, Niharika Singh, and Jubin Nautiyal have glorified the stages. KY not only promotes cultural traditions and aspects from around the globe but also highlights social values.

It is one of the biggest fests in Asia witnessing a footfall of more than 80k and seeks participation from more than 100 colleges located in different parts of the country.
The ideology of KY is to unite people all over the world by providing different opportunities to the youth. It is not just a fest but a sentiment of life. It is one of the biggest platforms for celebrating numerous art forms, dance forms, comedies, canvas, plays, fashion, theatre, quizzes, sports, and whatnot.

KY’23 saw a massive increase in the number and variety of sponsors ranging from social media to title, from oil to hotel, from media to games, and whatnot. Tribe Vibe was the festive partner that ensured the smooth conduct of the fest. Security responsibilities were taken up by the Crown and the UP police. Louis Philippe, Hero Group, Globus, Indian Oil Corp Limited, Jindal Steel & Power Ltd., LinkedIn, Coding Ninjas are some notable mentions.

The yearly entrepreneurial event at IIT (BHU) returned with unequalled zeal.

The IIT (BHU) Seed Fund is a new alumni-sponsored initiative that supports student-run enterprises by providing cash of up to $30K for chosen startups, in-depth one-on-one mentoring, and the opportunity to build the next unicorn.

On January 7, 2022, a panel discussion on starting a successful business in India today took place.
Our esteemed alumni visitors Mr. Ganesh Rengaswamy (2002), Co-founder & MD, Quona Capital; Mr. Atul Sinha (1983), Board Director, Preceyes; Mr. Shobhit Shubhankar (2015), Project Leader, BCG Singapore; and Mr. Shashwat Agarwal (2021), Advisor, Wellness Mandala, presided over the panel.

The panelists revealed a couple of the selection criteria after the panel discussion was over. The depth and breadth of the founding team's expertise, as well as the startup's unique technology, business model, and other factors, all play crucial roles.

The IIT BHU Seed Fund is a new alumni-sponsored fund that will support student entrepreneurship efforts by offering grants of up to $30K for selected startups, offer deep one-on-one mentorship, and enable a path for you to build the next unicorn.

The Fund will be launched on 7th January during the E-Cell Summit through a short talk and interactive panel discussion with alumni with serious experience in the startup space. Attend to understand what it takes to build a successful startup in India today, and how can the Fund help you.

The IIT (BHU) Seed Fund is scheduled to be launched on January 7, 2023 at 2:00 PM on the BHU Campus in Varanasi.

The IIT BHU Seed Fund's objective is to create a startup ecosystem among the university's academics, staff, and graduates. When startups graduate from the seed fund program, the goal of the fund is to prepare them for an outside fundraising round. Serial business owners and venture capitalist alumni will advise the selected startups.

At the official launch ceremony on January 7, 2023, a number of graduates who work in venture capital or have achieved success as entrepreneurs will be in attendance. Students who participate in this program will learn crucial lessons.

The Seed Fund Capital is generated from donations by various alumni looking to encourage innovation in young minds and promote the startup culture in IIT (BHU). The launch will be attended by various alumni distinguished in the field of venture capitalism, such as Mr. Atul Sinha and Mr. Ganesh Rengaswamy, who will offer invaluable insights on how to enter the startup ecosystem.

To promote a startup ecosystem among the IIT BHU community of students, professors, and alumni, Team E-cell will be launching the IIT BHU Seed Fund on January 7th, 2023, at the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, in partnership with the IIT (BHU) Foundation. This fund was created as a result of the kind gifts made by a number of institute alumni in an effort to encourage and instill a desire for innovation.

The unveiling ceremony shall take place at Shatabdi Bhawan, BHU Campus, Varanasi, at 2 pm on January 7th, 2023. The attendees shall witness multitude of events ranging from panel discussion around the topic by eminent personalities to addressing the subject of ‘Starting a startup in India Today.’
