💧 One message connects us: water and forests are inseparable.

On this World Water Day, we continue highlighting how communities across the Amazon are taking action to protect water, forests, and the future.

In IRI Colombia , the IRI campaign “No Forests, No Future” brings together faith leaders, communities, and institutions to raise awareness about the vital connection between tropical forests and water and the urgency to protect both in the face of the climate crisis.

Because without forests, there is no rain. Without water, there is no life.

Across territories, this growing movement shows that caring for water means caring for forests and that protecting both is a shared responsibility.

💧 Water is life. And it is a right.

On this World Water Day, we are reminded that millions of people still lack access to safe drinking water, a reality worsened by the climate crisis, deforestation, and pollution.

In the Amazon, communities face drought, smoke, and contaminated rivers. Without forests, there is no rain. Without clean water, there is no health.

IRI Brazil’s campaign mobilizes people, faith communities, and institutions to address these challenges and strengthen water and climate security.

Caring for water means caring for life, for territories, and for the future.

IRI Indonesia (IRI Indonesia ) made strategic progress by strengthening partnerships, aligning its vision for action, and turning plans into concrete implementation.

Bringing together religious leaders, civil society organizations, government institutions, youth groups, and communication partners, the initiative consolidated the direction of Phase 3 and advanced the “No Forests, No Future” campaign, connecting purpose, strategy, and action.

At the same time, IRI Indonesia continues to expand its policy engagement by joining coalitions that advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ rights, contributing to stronger socio-environmental governance in the country.

These efforts reinforce IRI’s role as a bridge between faith, society, and public policy - driving collective solutions for the protection of tropical forests.

On March 14, we mark the International Day of Action for Rivers, a moment to highlight the importance of protecting rivers and the ecosystems that sustain life on our planet. Present across diverse territories, rivers connect forests, nourish biodiversity, and provide water, food, and culture for millions of people.

Protecting rivers also means defending tropical forests and the communities that depend on them. The Interfaith Rainforest Initiative reinforces the importance of bringing together faith, science, and collective action to promote ecosystem conservation and environmental justice, recognizing that water, forests, and life are deeply interconnected.

"I have to do better.”

This is the powerful reflection of Reverend Edgar Castaño, Pastor of the Central Baptist Church and member of the IRI Colombia Advisory Council. Since our creation, he has traveled to the most remote regions, witnessing how our movement for the tropical forests is growing and reaching new horizons - from the heart of the jungle to the cities.

For the Reverend, every visit is a call to commitment. For us, his leadership is a source of inspiration. Together, we are transforming commitment into impact.

In 2025, Interfaith Rainforest Initiative in the Democratic Republic of the Congo began its third phase with a focus on visible impacts on the territory.

From Kinshasa to Muanda, Mbandaka and Kabinda all the way to COP30 in Belem, Brazil, IRI-DRC showed how faith, science and citizenship can walk hand in hand in protecting tropical forests and promoting climate justice.

Scientific and immersive training, community dialogues, strengthening of local governance, advocacy for Indigenous peoples’ rights, and participation in COP30 were among the actions that marked this cycle. The results include greater awareness in urban and rural areas, international recognition of Congolese leadership, and the consolidation of a collective effort capable of generating lasting change. Protecting forests is a shared commitment, and IRI DRC continues to strengthen this path forward.

On March 8th, we celebrate International Women’s Day by recognizing the essential role of women who transform faith into action for the protection of tropical forests. Across diverse territories, they lead efforts rooted in care for life, climate justice, and the defense of our shared natural heritage.

In Brazil, Peru, Indonesia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Colombia, women religious leaders, Indigenous leaders, researchers, and communicators strengthen the national chapters of the Interfaith Rainforest Initiative - advancing training, community dialogue, policy advocacy, and educational action.

IRI’s strength is also feminine, collective, and deeply connected to the territories.

🌍 World Wildlife Day

On this World Wildlife Day (March 3), we remember that the protection of fauna is deeply connected to the defense of tropical forests and life on our planet. From the Amazon to the rivers and forests of Africa, from the Andes to Southeast Asia, endangered species share the same territories where the impacts of deforestation, environmental degradation, and the climate crisis are intensifying.

Our work in these territories strengthens the bond between faith, science, and collective action to protect ecosystems, peoples, and wildlife. Defending these animals is defending the balance of our planet and the common future we share.

In an article published in the Peruvian press, Cardinal Pedro Barreto Jimeno - a member of IRI in Peru - makes an ethical appeal ahead of the 2026 elections: to choose leaders who are committed to protecting life, promoting social justice, and caring for our planet, especially the Amazon.

His reflection invites readers to see the electoral process as a decision that goes beyond politics, directly impacting the future of territories, forests, and future generations. Read the full article and reflect on the choices that shape tomorrow.

We recognize the importance of Cardinal Pedro Barreto raising his voice at such a decisive moment for Peru. Faith leaders play a vital role in shaping ethical reflection and collective responsibility, and their leadership helps connect environmental protection with values of justice, dignity, and care for life.
