Today, we mourn the loss of media pioneer and conservation visionary Ted Turner, founder of and , whose impact on wildlife conservation is almost impossible to measure.

Through his vast ranches in New Mexico and across the American West, Turner helped lead the rewilding and protection of numerous keystone species, including the grey wolf, bison, Bolson tortoise, black-footed ferret, prairie dog, and Bighorn sheep. His lifelong commitment to restoring ecosystems changed the future of conservation in the United States and beyond.

In 2023, founder visited Ladder Ranch with , where she met senior biologists Dr. Chris Wiese , Dr. Scott Hillard, and renowned wolf conservationist Mike Phillips. Witnessing this extraordinary conservation work firsthand became one of the inspirations behind the founding of vildwerk. and its mission to inspire conservation awareness through dance.

As Jane Fonda beautifully said:

“I see him in heaven now with all the wildlife he helped bring back from extinction – the black-footed ferrets, the prairie dogs, Big Horned sheep, Mexican Gray Wolf, the Yellowstone wolf pack, bison, the red-cockaded woodpecker and so many more, they’re all gathered at the pearly gates applauding and thanking him for saving their species.”

Rest in peace, dear Ted. Your legacy lives on in the wild places and species you fought so hard to protect.

We are thrilled to welcome Ingrid Silva to the vildwerk. family as part of Dancing for the Wild at Bryant Park’s SummerStage on June 5th. Mark your calendars and join us for what promises to be an exceptional evening — and don’t forget to bring a picnic. 🌿🩰

Following her recent retirement and final performance with Dance Theatre of Harlem after an extraordinary twelve-season career, Ingrid now joins us as a choreographer presenting her work Intersections of Life.
Created for Chattanooga Ballet’s 50th anniversary and set to an original score by Brazilian composer Leandro Albuquerque, Intersections of Life was inspired by the ways we move through and connect with one another in life. The choreography flows with an effortless strength, imagining us as water — navigating our own intersections, encounters, and journeys. The incredible Ariana Dickerson, Amar Smalls, Vinicius Freire, Thierry Blanchaard, Joshua Ponton, and Eunhye Darbouze will be performing this work.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Ingrid trained at Projeto Dançando Para Não Dançar, Escola de Dança Maria Olenewa, and the Dance Theatre of Harlem Professional Training Program before dancing with Deborah Colker, Grupo Corpo, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Throughout her career, she has performed works by legendary choreographers including Arthur Mitchell, George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Robert Garland, Donald Byrd, and many others.
Ingrid continues to break barriers far beyond the stage. In 2017, she became the first Afro-Brazilian ballerina to appear on the cover of Pointe Magazine and later appeared on the cover of Vogue Brasil. She received the Latina Trailblazer Award at Harvard University’s Latina Empowerment & Development Conference and was invited to speak at the United Nations’ 2025 International Women’s Day commemoration. She is also the founder of and co-founder of and

We are deeply honored to begin this new chapter together and cannot wait to share Ingrid’s artistry and vision with our audiences. 💚

Once, they roamed freely across
The grizzly—powerful, revered, woven into the land itself.
And then, within a single century, they were gone.

Once a symbol of California’s wild abundance, the grizzly bear was hunted to extinction in the name of expansion and control. Its absence is not empty—it is shaped by violence, mythmaking, and erasure. This work moves through that history, tracing the forces that removed the bear from its land while asking what it means to imagine its return. Rewilding becomes more than ecological; it is an act of memory, of reckoning, and of hope.

Through movement, we bring back what history erased.
Through breath, weight, and presence, dancers embody not only the animal—but the absence it left behind.
This is not nostalgia. It is a reckoning.

Homecoming of the Unforgotten—a ballet by created for and in collaboration with inspired by the work of the —invites us to consider what we choose to remember, and what we choose to restore.

Earth Day week comes to a close — but the work continues. 🌍

This week visited the Green Team at The Browning School , spearheaded by science teacher Joan Gillman, to speak with students about 🐢 conservation in the field — from real-world challenges to the people working every day to protect our planet.

We also said hello to Dijon, the classroom’s resident lizard 🦎 , and spoke about what it means to keep animals in captivity — and the responsibility that comes with it. From clean habitats and proper nutrition to understanding species-specific needs, even small actions can make a meaningful difference in animal welfare.

Because awareness is where it starts.
And action is what follows.

At vildwerk., we believe these conversations belong not only on stage, but in classrooms — where the next generation begins to understand both the urgency and the possibility of change.

Thank you to the students and faculty for the thoughtful questions, curiosity, and engagement.

The future is in good hands. 🌱

This Earth Day, we’re reminded how interconnected everything is: across disciplines, communities, and the natural world 💚

We’re deeply grateful to collaborate with so many dancers, artists, and partner organizations who bring care, curiosity, and intention into this work. Together, we continue to explore how art can be part of a larger conversation around protecting the systems that sustain us 🌎
