Our social groups provide a fun and inclusive environment for individuals to connect, socialize, and build meaningful friendships. Our private tutoring sessions, taught by licensed teachers, are specifically designed to help your child build confidence in their abilities and reach their academic goals. Plus, we have specialists trained in the Orton Gillingham method, which offers a multisensory approach to learning that can benefit students with dyslexia or other language-based learning differences. Of course we want genuine friendships to grow.

That is one of the central goals of Friendship Confidence™.

But friendship usually doesn’t appear all at once. There can be meaningful changes along the way.

Looking forward to seeing the group.
Walking into the room with a little more comfort.

Remembering something another participant shared. Starting a conversation without waiting for the teacher. Choosing to sit next to someone. Sending the first text.

Those moments matter because they are often part of the process of becoming more comfortable with other people, and with yourself.

We can’t promise when or whether a particular friendship will develop.

What we can do is intentionally create the conditions where genuine connection has the best possible chance to grow🩵.

Sometimes a skill does need to be taught directly.

We can talk about it.

Practice it.

Give someone language to try.

But then they also need real people to use it with.

Real conversations.

Real personalities.

Real moments where things don’t always go exactly as planned.

That’s why social skill-building and friendship-building happen alongside each other in Friendship Confidence™.

The friendship isn’t the prize waiting at the end of the work.

We currently have openings in several Friendship Confidence™ groups for preteens, high school students, and young adults.

Our groups are thoughtfully matched rather than filled simply based on availability, so the first step is our interest form.

From there, we learn more about the participant and consider whether one of our current groups may be an appropriate fit.

Art journaling is back at VES! 🎨

Sometimes, having a creative space to explore ideas, experiment with colors, and put thoughts onto a page can be a meaningful experience for teens.

Our next 8-week Art Journaling class gives teens ages 14 to 19 the opportunity to create personalized journal pages through colors, images, words, and different art projects.

With Ms. Kara’s guidance, students can explore new ideas, make their own creative choices, and work on projects that reflect their interests and experiences while enjoying the process alongside peers.

Class details:
📅 Mondays, October 26 to December 14, 2026
⏰ 6:30 to 7:30 PM
📍 3836 Richmond Ave, lower level, Staten Island

Registration closes Monday, October 19. A minimum of four registered students is required for the class to run, and families will be notified by October 20.
