Reading & Discussion Series on James Baldwin’s America: Both Light and Dark.

Drawing from reading excerpts of essays “Everybody’s Protest Novel,” “Many Thousand Gone,” “Carmen Jones” and “The Harlem Ghetto,” writer Sherese Francis will facilitate a discussion on what it means to be American inspired by Baldwin’s writings and his legacy in speaking truth to power.

The High School to Art School program (HS2AS) is a FREE visual arts portfolio development program that provides qualified high school sophomores, juniors and seniors with the art skills training, mentorship, essay writing techniques, college application assistance and financial aid planning necessary to gain acceptance into competitive art colleges and achieve their dreams in the arts.

The Morgan Library & Museum presents a Family Interactive Tour and Workshop.
The exhibition Another Tradition: Drawings by Black Artists from the American South, celebrates recent acquisitions at the Morgan from the Souls Grown Deep Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting Black Southern artists and their communities

Family program participants will take a virtual tour of the exhibition, then take part in a live art workshop lead by Goose Grease House for the Arts. During the workshop, participants will copy the painting Courthouse by Henry Speller.

ArtsConnection Teen Programs invites you to our FREE BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT: A BRONX COMMUNITY CELEBRATION on Saturday, September 18 from 2-4 pm (see attached flyer for more info). It would be amazing to have some of the teens and families you work with in attendance. There will be free snacks, art-making activities, hip-hop dance sessions, and a live, spoken word performance. Create movement, poetry, songs, and theater with young people all over the city with the support of BAM's dedicated and innovative teaching artists. Finish the program with an online sharing of your original, genre-bending new work!
