Please join me in congratulating Melissa Valencia on her promotion to Director of Operations & Administration at NYTAG! 🎉

Melissa’s journey with NYTAG began in the Fall of 2022 as an intern. Over two semesters, she quickly distinguished herself through her commitment to our mission, exceptional organizational skills, and unwavering dedication to supporting our community. On June 12, 2023, Melissa officially joined the organization as Executive Assistant to the Co-Executive Director Leadership Team.

Over the last three years, Melissa has played an integral role in strengthening NYTAG’s operations and administrative functions. Supporting the executive director leadership team, she has managed countless projects, organizational priorities, and day-to-day responsibilities with professionalism, excellence, and care—all while balancing the demands of being a full-time student.

Melissa recently graduated with her Bachelor of Social Work with a minor in Public and Nonprofit Administration, a milestone that reflects the same determination, discipline, and commitment she brings to her work every day.

Melissa, your dedication has never gone unnoticed. Your ability to solve problems, create systems, manage complexity, and keep our organization moving forward has been instrumental to NYTAG’s growth and sustainability. Administration is often the unseen foundation that makes transformational work possible, and your contributions have helped ensure that NYTAG continues to thrive.

As Director of Operations & Administration, Melissa will provide leadership over the organization’s internal operations, administrative systems, organizational policies, compliance functions, and staff support structures. She will play a critical role in strengthening NYTAG’s infrastructure and ensuring we are positioned for long-term sustainability, growth, and impact across New York State.

Melissa, thank you for your integrity, commitment, leadership, and service to this organization. We are incredibly proud of you and excited to watch you continue to grow in this next chapter.

Congratulations, Melissa! 💙🏳️‍⚧️✨

🪷 This weekend, NYTAG gathered for our Annual Board Retreat — a time for reflection, planning, and recommitment to our mission.

We are deeply grateful to our Board of Directors for their continued leadership, partnership, and unwavering support, especially as we navigate challenging and uncertain times. Together, we engaged in meaningful conversations about board governance, organizational sustainability, leadership, and the future of our work.

Throughout the weekend, we remained grounded in the values that have always guided NYTAG: love, joy, community, and the promise of liberation. As we look ahead, we do so with renewed purpose and a shared commitment to building a future where transgender, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming people can thrive.

Thank you to our board members for your dedication, wisdom, and belief in our collective vision. 💜🏳️‍⚧️

🪷 On May 16th, NYTAG’s Youth Advocacy Fellowship alumni Ash and Ebony showed up powerfully at Washington Square Park to rally in support of gender-affirming care and the rights of TGNCNB communities across New York and beyond. 🏳️‍⚧️✨

Their voices, leadership, and commitment to community advocacy are a reminder that our young people are not only the future — they are leading right now. From storytelling to public action, YAF alumni continue to use the tools they’ve built through our fellowship to fight for dignity, access, safety, and liberation.

We are incredibly proud to witness our alumni organizing, speaking out, and standing firm in defense of lifesaving care and bodily autonomy.

People over profit. Community over fear. Liberation over oppression.
