The DRR Youth Blast in UNDRR’s GP2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, on 1st June!

The DRR Youth Constituency in Major Group for Children and Youth extend our thanks to all the partners and individuals who made the Youth Blast a success.

We kicked off with personal career stories from our Opening Segment speakers: thank you: Sarah Wade-Apicella, Kirsten Hjørnholm, Natalia Alonso Cano, Michele Messina and Kamal Kishore for sharing your journeys and inspiring us.

Our action-packed workshops followed:
A dive into the humanitarian sector with insights from Dr Amjad Mohamed Saleem (PhD) and Olle Castell on the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement and the Compact for Young People in Humanitarian Action set the scene for
Liliana Demartini and Ruth Chomola from ActionAid and the Global Platforms session that explored the shifting realities youth face in humanitarian action.

UCL Disaster Risk Reduction & Humanitarianism Society represented by Iman made a wonderful presentation on the society's engagement. It was inspiring to see the amount of work and impact young people can do and have while in school.

Global Platform Zimbabwe represented by Happymore Chibvura in spirit 😊 and Ruth Chomola brought the Canvas of Resilience from Harare, Zimbabwe, facilitating the use of art to communicate young people's commitments as Everyday Count, and we need to Act for Resilience Today!

Lina Suárez facilitated a fun and educational storytelling session using books created for children and youth to learn about hazards. We explored different hazards, asked questions, and brought DRR to life in an engaging way!

The One Million Youth Actions Challenge (1MYAC) represented by Kavi Ponnuthurai facilitated a workshop on how youth can take action aligned with the SDGs. The participants are now ready to submit their projects in the next call for proposals, opening 1 July 2025!
1MYAC focuses on four key SDGs:
🔹 SDG 6 – Clean Water & Sanitation
🔹 SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption & Production
🔹 SDG 13 – Climate Action
🔹 SDG 15 – Life on Land

Huge thanks to our partners:

United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), UNICEF, ActionAid, The Africa Youth Advisory Board on Disaster Risk Reduction (AYAB DRR), Youth Network for Disaster Risk Reduction Américas and the Caribbean, Global Platform Zimbabwe, COPE Disaster Champions, UCL Disaster Risk Reduction & Humanitarianism Society, 1MYAC, Arab Youth, & Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM).
