Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation

Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation The primary purpose of the foundation is to provide medical treatment, surgery, and rehabilitative services to the poor of India.

The goal is to assist the poor by not only getting them operated on but also providing them with free post-care as part of the service. The foundation was set up in 1995 by Mr Sunil Anand and his wife, Mrs Anu Anand, in the memory of their seventeen-year-old son Sanjay Anand. He died in a car accident in Staten Island, New York. They offered their son’s organs and tissues to help heal and save a g

roup of strangers. This generosity helped save the lives of many people. It also helped keep Sanjay’s legacy alive in the hearts and bodies of all those who benefitted. The New York Regional Transplant program saved over 300 individuals with Sanjay’s gift of vital organs and tissues. Disabled children were able to walk with his donation of bones to the greater Metropolitan Bone Bank. Two people were given the gift of sight through the eye bank. The New York Cornell Medical Centre was able to help a burn victim with skin grafts. Inspired by Organ and Tissue donations which helped hundreds of people, Sunil and Anu Anand established the Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation Inc (SACF) in New York and Sanjay Anand Charitable Trust in New Delhi, India in 1995.

July 2025 Update & Year-to-Date Achievements

At the Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation, we believe that every act of kindness can set off a ripple effect that transforms lives. This July, our foundation has been a beacon of hope, illuminating the path for those who have faced adversity. Through our dedicated efforts, we have not only provided medical assistance but have also fostered an environment where dreams can flourish. Our initiatives are a testament to the profound impact of compassion, and we are proud to share these stories of resilience and triumph.

The statistics we share reflect a deeper narrative. Each patient we have examined, every limb we have fitted, and every meal we have served carries with it a story of struggle and determination. In July, we examined over a thousand patients, each seeking a solution to their challenges. Every consultation represents a new possibility, a chance to restore health and vitality to lives that have faced difficulties. From children to the elderly, our team ensures that personalized care is at the forefront of our mission, allowing us to cater to the specific needs of each individual.

Among those we have helped this month, 72 patients received prosthetic limbs. This gesture symbolizes much more than physical restoration; it represents a return to independence, a chance for these individuals to reclaim their lives. Imagine a young man who, after losing a leg to an accident, can now take their first steps again, or a mother who can resume her daily chores and support her family. Each prosthetic limb fits into a larger narrative of hope, dignity, and empowerment.

The surgeries we provide are also crucial to our vision. This July, we performed ten polio corrective surgeries, each one a step toward restoring mobility and freedom for those affected. These operations create life-changing opportunities, allowing individuals to re-engage with their communities and pursue their aspirations. The ability to move freely is essential for self-esteem and mental health, and we are grateful for the chance to contribute to such meaningful transformations.

For those who have faced challenges with hearing, the distribution of 41 hearing aids this month has opened up a world of sound. For many, this is more than just an enhancement of a sense; it is a gateway to communication, connection, and community. The profound joy of a child hearing their parent’s voice for the first time or an elderly person rediscovering the laughter of grandchildren cannot be underestimated. Every hearing aid represents a bridge to relationships that may have been strained by silence, and we are proud to play a part in rekindling those connections.

Physiotherapy and neurotherapy are also vital components of our holistic approach to care. This July, we conducted 388 physiotherapy sessions and delivered 370 neurotherapy treatments, focusing on rehabilitation and recovery. These therapies enhance physical capabilities and boost psychological well-being, ensuring that individuals not only regain their strength but also build confidence in their abilities. Witnessing our patients engage in their rehabilitation is heart-warming, as they often inspire each other in their journeys toward recovery.

Furthermore, we supported 44 cases of cerebral palsy, recognizing the unique challenges that each individual faces. Our commitment to these patients means providing tailored therapies and interventions that address their specific needs. Our approach encompasses physical, emotional, and psychological dimensions, ensuring that every patient feels valued and understood.

Our small yet impactful donations, such as the tricycle we gifted this month, symbolize our belief in fostering independence. For a child who has struggled to navigate their surroundings, this simple gesture can unlock new possibilities for exploration and adventure. Similarly, the personalized leather supports we provided improve comfort and mobility, showcasing our dedication to enhancing quality of life in practical ways.

Looking back on the year-to-date achievements from January to July, we have examined over nine thousand patients, provided hundreds of prosthetic limbs, and performed numerous surgeries. These milestones reflect a steadfast commitment to improving lives. However, our successes are driven by more than numbers; they are rooted in shared experiences and stories of hope.

The total impact of our Foundation since its inception reveals a legacy of care that has reached over a hundred thousand patients. Every life touched is a reminder of the importance of our work and the spirit of community that fuels it. As we celebrate these achievements, we also recognize the gift of sustenance that allows individuals to thrive. The provision of over ninety-three thousand free meals emphasizes our understanding that health goes hand-in-hand with nourishment.

While our focus remains on medical care, we know that holistic support is vital for the well-being of our community. That is why we have sponsored thirty-five thousand cataract surgeries, restoring sight and changing lives. Imagine the gratitude of individuals who can now see clearly, engaging fully with their environment. The joy of rediscovery—of colours, faces, and the beauty of everyday life—is profound and serves as a reminder of why we do what we do.

As we look ahead, we remain steadfast in our mission to expand our reach and impact. We are committed to sponsoring even more cataract surgeries and ensuring that essential support flows to those in need. The work we do is not just about providing medical aid; it is a celebration of life, resilience, and community.

In a bustling corner of Noida, India, the ICARE Hospital is witnessing life-changing transformations, thanks to the unwavering support of the Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation. The Foundation’s recent provision of 109 free meals and sponsorship of one hundred cataract surgeries highlights their heartfelt commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

The Foundation's work is more than just numbers; it is about real people and their stories. Imagine the life of Mr. Ramesh, a 68-year-old gentleman from a nearby village. For years, he lived in a world of darkness, unable to afford the cataract surgery that could restore his vision. His world changed when he learned about the free cataract surgeries offered by the Foundation. Today, he can see his grandchildren play and read his favourite newspaper, small joys that many of us take for granted.

The story of Ramesh is just one among thousands. Since its inception, the Foundation has sponsored over 33,700 cataract surgeries. Each surgery is a testament to their mission of bringing light into the lives of those living in darkness. Cataracts, which can lead to blindness if untreated, disproportionately affect the elderly and those without access to quality healthcare. By sponsoring these surgeries, the Foundation is not only restoring sight but also giving individuals their independence back.

Imagine the relief of a grandmother who can now see to cook for her family again, or a young student who can return to school with clear vision. These are the everyday miracles that the Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation makes possible. Their work underscores the profound impact that sight has on an individual’s quality of life.

The Foundation’s impact does not stop at surgeries. Recently, they provided 109 free meals to patients and their families at ICARE Hospital. It is a simple yet powerful gesture. Good nutrition is crucial for recovery, especially after surgery. By ensuring patients have access to nutritious meals, the Foundation is supporting their overall well-being and recovery process.

Mrs. Kavita, who accompanied her husband for his cataract surgery, expressed her gratitude saying, “We were worried about how we would manage food during our stay here. The free meals provided by the Foundation lifted a huge burden off our shoulders. It is not just about the food; it is about the care and thoughtfulness behind it.”

This holistic approach to care – addressing both medical and basic needs – highlights the Foundation’s deep empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by the underprivileged. It is not just about treating the ailment but caring for the whole person.

The ripple effects of the Foundation’s work extend far beyond individual patients. Families and entire communities feel the positive impact. When a person regains their sight, they often return to work, contributing to the family income and community economy. Children can focus on their studies without worrying about their grandparents’ health. The social fabric of communities is strengthened as individuals regain their confidence and independence.

The Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation’s dedication is fuelled by the generosity of donors and the tireless efforts of volunteers. Their collective spirit of giving and service is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause.

Looking ahead, the Foundation remains committed to expanding their reach and impact. They aim to sponsor even more cataract surgeries and continue providing essential support to those in need. Their ongoing efforts are a source of inspiration, showing us all the importance of giving back and supporting our communities.

The work of the Sanjay Anand Charitable Foundation at ICARE Hospital is a shining example of how compassion and generosity can transform lives. Their recent initiatives, from free meals to cataract surgeries, are a testament to their unwavering commitment to improving the well-being of the community. With each surgery and each meal, they are not just providing medical aid but spreading hope, joy, and a renewed sense of possibility.
