Alisha Noonie Greene, Special Representative. 'Every day that's what we did, making sure NYC customers were up and running, that the hospitals didn't lose service, that the emergency companies, the ambulance 911 was always available. That's what I did for the next 10 months at Verizon.' CWA Local 1101, CWA District 1, Communications Workers of America

Brandt Cullen, Splicer. 'I remember riding down on the bus and it was like going into kind of a war zone. Once you got into working and doing what you do as a field technician, you kind of forgot where you were. It wasn't until you a free moment and you looked around and you'd see all the destruction.' CWA Local 1101, CWA District 1, Communications Workers of America, Brandt Cullen

'The job that we were doing was directly related, because we were a T-1 center. We had to get stuff working. Everything was demolished and destroyed.' CWA Local 1101, CWA District 1, Communications Workers of America

Gerry Shapiro, Central Office Technician. 'I volunteered to go down to Central Office that was opposite the World Trade Center, which was West Street. And we spent the next several months trying to restore communication for all of Southern Manhattan.' CWA Local 1101, CWA District 1, Communications Workers of America

Phyllis Kendal, TTA/Central Office Technician. 'One of the interruptions was Liberty Plaza, because they kept saying it was going to fall, and ricochet and affect this building. For the few weeks after that we had to constantly evacuate, which was nerve racking because you felt like something was going to happen again.' CWA Local 1101, CWA District 1, Communications Workers of America

Dan Dennehy, elevator mechanic. 'Twenty years ago I was asked to go down in the aftermath of 9/11 to respond and do recovery work in my trade. I was surrounded by other first responders doing their trades to bring the city back and to find those that were lost and we continue to remember them and honor them.' CWA Local 1101, CWA District 1, Communications Workers of America

My name is Ron Van Long. I'm in the special services department, and under CWA Local 1101. I was part of the recovery for all the special service equipment to establish communications for the first responders. CWA Local 1101, CWA District 1, Communications Workers of America, Ron Spaulding

Bernard Burgess, Central Office Technician. 'A few of my co- workers and myself volunteered to go back to 140 West Street that day. We worked a 12 hour shift nonstop, with no light and no elevator, and at the end of the day we were all tired. But as we were exiting Ground Zero, there was a group of people that just started clapping and cheering for us, and at that moment I knew we did something special.' CWA Local 1101, CWA District 1, Communications Workers of America
