Blessed to have been invited to participate in The 1619 Project!!! Journalist Pulitzer Prize Winner Nikole Hannah-Jones and producer OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network bring us a potent new Hulu docuseries that shines a light on America’s original sins.
Me and Warriors in the Garden are featured in “Fear” episode 5 of the 1619 Project featured on Hulu
“I never like to tell people to only watch one episode of like this or any show… but I would say the “Fear” episode, because I think it explains a lot about things people don’t understand. That also goes against what I believe in terms of what you’re saying, in terms of showing the joy, because that’s important. But I think in terms of what people are disbelieving, and the right’s reframing of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the uprisings and their importance, that episode gives those a lot of context. And going back to what I was saying, Derrick Ingram’s story is undeniable.” - Salon.com, Melanie McFarland

Happy ✊🏾

“The more you know of your , the more you are” -

Dr.Rebecca Lee Crumpler: She attended a prestigious private school in Massachusette, West-Newtown English and Classical school, where she later worked as a nurse for 8 years untill applying for medical school. In 1860, she was accepterd at the New England Female Medical College. Later in her career, she worked in a predominantly Black neighborhood at the time, Beacon Hill, Boston.

Alvin Ailey: In 1958, he started the American Dance Theater, which has been a platform for Black dancers to excel in the dance world. Creating new techniques, choreography, and ballets that beautifully contrast traditional pieces. At 58, he died of an AIDS-related illness but his vision still lives on.

And there’s a plethora of other warriors featured here from Claudette Colvin to Shirley Chisholm. Each and everyone taking a stand and paving the way for future generations.

*Amplified Action*: Organized by ,

Calling community to action: TODAY AT 6 PM AT TIMES SQUARE RED STEPS (47th & Broadway) to honor the life of Michelle Alyssa Go, an Asian-American New Yorker who was pushed to her death at the Times Sq. Station this past Saturday. There are no excuses anymore for our city’s government. There are no more excuses for this senseless hate. We need the resources to provide mental health services and barriers to prevent citizens deaths. Our country has a tragically broken system of mental health, just like it does policing. There were 6 police officers in the station when this incident occurred, 2 even on the platform Michelle Go was standing on.

This was a tragic act of violence once again bred from the wraths of white supremacy. We stand with our AAPI community through this devastating time in solidarity, and we hope you join us tonight in demanding increased safety for ALL New Yorkers.

🛑For our community members: Eric Adams will be attending this vigil, which means a strong police presence. If you’re planning to go, please take care of yourselves and others.

Getting justice for has been an uphill battle from the start. Given the attackers’ close relationship with law enforcement 🐷🐷🐷, transparency and cannot be taken for granted in any way. The Glynn County department, responsible for the initial investigation into Ahmaud’s death, is a notoriously corrupt institution.

Year after year, their officers have been involved in scandal after scandal, involving offenses like inappropriate sexual contact with informants in a narcotics investigation, lying to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and interfering with investigations into police-involved shootings.

The trial jury consisting of 11 White jurors and one Black juror found Travis McMichael, his father Gregory McMichael and their co-defendant William "Roddie" Bryan Jr. — the three men accused of chasing and killing 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery — guilty of murder.

, attorney and political commentator, just told :
“Ahmaud Arbery being alive is justice,” but Sellers added that the verdicts added up to a measure of “accountability”
