Hi OT’s and PT’s. I’m disheartened and frustrated by BERS, our pension system. The director of BERS doesn’t even know that we don’t get the 8.25% fixed interest rate like other members of BERS and instead get 7%. How does the director of our pension system not know this simple fact? He was even convincing our chapter’s elected officials of this misinformation.
Our chapter completed a survey previously and moving to TRS was a high priority and was one of the top three issues for negotiations.
Sadly, our chapter leader hasn’t received many emails from members stating their frustration with BERS or wanting an option to move to TRS (teachers retirement system). We need to motivate as a chapter and tell our union that we want the option of moving out of BERS. For those who want to stay with BERS they can, but we should have the option to move to TRS like the audiologists and ed analysts have, who by the way are a part of our bargaining unit. They got placed with us and the nurses out of nowhere during the last contract.
Our chapter leader is unsure if this is something that’s important to our chapter.
Part of parity means being with our peers in TRS. If you want TRS let the union know! We had a data breach and I was told that an email was going to go out about it and nothing happened weeks later!
My husband’s union is under investigation because they misappropriated millions of dollars in pension funds. We need to be in TRS! I don’t trust BERS. Too many mistakes have been done on my account.
How on earth did the ed analysts and audiologists get into TRS when it was told to us that it would be a long process due to state legislature? I’m very frustrated.
