Why is the sea the ultimate training ground for Mars?

1️⃣ True Isolation: No easy exit. You are your own mission control.

2️⃣ Resource Management: Every drop of water and bolt matters.

3️⃣ Dynamic Environment: The sea, like space, is always moving and unpredictable.
Reid Stowe’s new feature in dives deep into our voyage to Starbase and why the next generation of astronauts should be seafarers first. ⚓🚀

The Artemis II splashdown on April 10th wasn't just a return to Earth—it was a reminder that the ocean is the gateway to the stars. 🌎🛰️

In this new article for Cruising World, MOA founder Reid Stowe details our mission to SpaceX’s Starbase and the critical role of sea-based training. While land-based habitats are valuable, only the sea provides the "life-or-death" environment where you can't just walk out the door.

"The psychological profile of an experienced offshore sailor matches what a Mars mission would demand far better than a jet-fighter pilot’s profile ever could."

Sea training is critical for space training because it forces crews to manage isolation, limited resources, and complex repairs in a dynamic, high-stakes environment.

When I try to teach people some things about how I did the Longest Sea Voyage in History and how that relates to preparing the mind for Mars the hardest thing, the most basic thing is: be present to the moment now and leave your worldly baggage behind.

Here is a 4 by 8 foot painting getting passed down into the cargo hold of the Schooner Starship Anne. This is just one example of how my art creations have been involved in the voyages that made history around the world. These paintings have to be as tough as the Captain and crew and take chances too. This makes these paintings like no others before them. They are made and forged in unique challenging situations. They helped the Captain do the Longest Sea Voyage in History. They have that power and vibrations that even seasoned art people can’t see.

Maxine and I brought our Marsoceananalog program to the Intrepid Kids Space Week. Hundreds of kids drew themselves on Mars and signed their names to be on the crew. We filled up eight sail paintings 8 by 6 feet each on both sides!

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us at our booth at the during Kids week! We had a blast educating visitors of all ages on the longest sea voyage in history, the invention of GPS art and how trains space professionals for Mars through long voyages at sea. The kids especially loved drawing on our big Mars sails!

We are already looking forward to next year. 🚀⛵️
