Save the date to help us meet our $4,000 goal on goal on November 28th!

We’ve been awarding scholarships to college students from the Bronx housing projects for over 30 years, in memory of the late Juanita James. Juanita deeply believed in the importance of education and instilled that belief in both her daughters and the neighborhood children she babysat for. After her untimely passing in 1985, her two adult daughters - Dr. Patricia Jordan and Sandra James LaForey - founded the scholarship foundation with money that they received in sympathy cards, along with their own limited funds.

More than three decades after her passing, Juanita James continues to positively influence young people from the projects. Her granddaughter, Alexa Jordan, has been the Executive Director of the Scholarship Fund since 2021.
