Yesterday was a proud and unforgettable moment for WECNYC.

We are honored to receive the 2026 Emerging Nonprofit Award at the Excellence in Human Services Awards, presented by the Mayor’s Office of Nonprofit Services (MONS).

Under the leadership of our Founder & CEO, Somia Elrowmeim, WECNYC began with a simple but powerful vision: to create a place where women, families, and communities could find support, opportunity, and a voice.

Somia planted the seed, believed in the mission, and spent years nurturing it through hard work, sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the community. Today, we are seeing the fruits of those years of dedication.

This recognition did not happen overnight, and it did not happen by chance. It represents years of work by our founder and the collective dedication of the entire WECNYC family our staff, board members, volunteers, partners, supporters, donors,  funders, and community members.

From a vision to a growing organization making an impact across New York City, every milestone reminds us why we started and why we must keep going.

Yesterday, we celebrated an award. Today, we continue the work. And tomorrow, we will keep building an even stronger community.

We are deeply honored and grateful for this recognition. This moment represents more than an award; it represents the strength of our community, the women and families we serve, and the vision that continues to move WECNYC forward.

Through every challenge, we continue to build, grow, and create opportunities for women from diverse backgrounds. We are building bridges, opening doors, and creating spaces where women can rise, lead, and make their voices heard.

Thank you for recognizing our work and believing in our mission. We are proud of how far we have come, but we are just getting started.

We will keep growing. We will keep empowering. And together, we will continue creating change. 💜✊🏽

We’re proud to have partnered with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA) and our community partners for a successful outreach day along Bay Ridge’s 5th Avenue Business Corridor, connecting our neighbors with critical resources and information.

Together, we visited more than 100 local businesses, mosques, and cultural institutions, sharing multilingual Know Your Rights (KYR) materials, Red and Yellow Cards, immigrant resource information, and MOIA’s new Temporary Protected Status (TPS) FAQ for Syrian New Yorkers.

At WECNYC, we believe strong partnerships build stronger communities. Thank you to the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, Council Member Kayla Santosuosso, and all of our dedicated community partners and volunteers who helped make this outreach effort a success.
