3 BDL students made it to the SEMIFINALS at the National Catholic Forensic League Speech & Debate National Championship this weekend!

We could not be more proud of these kiddos. The hard work, the dedication, the heart they put into this all showed up on that national stage. Congratulations! 🙌🏅

This past weekend, 5 BDL students competed at the National Catholic Forensic League Speech & Debate National Championship in Washington, D.C. and we couldn’t be more proud of every single one of them!

Three years. $45,000. Brooklyn Org grant. Officially.
This community has always shown up for itself. Now the borough is showing up for us.

Every debate round, every late practice, every coach who gave their Saturday, every teacher who stayed after hours, every parent who dropped their kid off believing something good was happening in that room.

This is the return on that investment.

To Brooklyn Org and the Brooklyn Nets ownership for seeing what we were building before the rest of the world caught on. Thank you. genuinely. This grant does not just fund a program. It funds a future.

To our students past and present. You are the reason any of this exists. Every argument you made, every round you lost and came back from, every time you found your voice in that room.

We did this together.

Brooklyn raised us. Now we are raising Brooklyn.
We are just getting started. 🤝

The BDL was happy to bring some of our students to the Honorable Judge Juan Merchan’s courtroom yesterday. They got to see the Mental Health Court and how community, advocacy, and the justice system can coexist.

“Volunteering for BDL is a great opportunity to give back to the wider debate community which has become such an important part of my professional and personal life.

Debate taught me some of the most important lessons of the real world, from how to communicate effectively to developing a stronger understanding of the foundations that underpin our society, and it’s only because I participated in debate that I have become the lawyer of today.

Working with BDL, I have had a chance to coach kids and see them develop their skills over the academic year, and it gives me a strong sense of pride to see some of these kids succeed at debate tournaments and beyond as they grow into adulthood.

One of my greatest takeaways from debate was the friendships I made along the way, and working with the team and students at BDL cements the special connection I have with the debate community.

Overall, volunteering with BDL has been a heartwarming opportunity to give back to a community which gave me so much, and I look forward to continuing my work with the organization!”
