Founded in 1937 and appointed by the California Department of Insurance in 1994, the Surplus Line Association of California (SLACAL) oversees the state's nearly $25 billion surplus lines marketplace. In that role, SLACAL serves as a market stabilizer, information authority and early-warning system for regulators and industry. The association supports broker compliance, processes surplus lines policies and monitors insurer solvency. From its roots as a California resource, SLACAL has grown into a driving force behind the insurance industry's data, insight and direction. Today, it is trusted by a broad circle of brokers, members, partners and stakeholders across an increasingly global stage.
The Pennsylvania Surplus Lines Association (PSLA) is a non–profit organization, formed in 1982, that serves as a membership and advisory organization to the Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID). In this role, they advise and consult with resident and non-resident Pennsylvania Surplus Lines Licensees, insurance carriers and other interested parties on matters involving the surplus lines marketplace. These include, but are not limited to, proper reporting, policy tax calculations and compliance. PSLA provides extensive training and education to both resident and non-resident surplus lines licensees.
The Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Association is the non-profit association of professionals and specialty market leaders dedicated to the wholesale distribution system. WSIA represents the interests of its members and the valuable role they play in the insurance market through networking, education, talent recruitment and development, regulatory and legislative advocacy for the wholesale, specialty and surplus lines industry, and by promoting the value of the wholesale distribution channel.
