Creating stronger communities begins with dedicated interns like Arshpreet Kaur 📣

Arshpreet Kaur is spending her summer as an Outreach Intern with the Social Service Home-Based Unit at the NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA). In her role, she analyzes data on case management providers and clients while helping develop strategies to improve program efficiency and expand access to services for older adults across New York City. Throughout her internship, Arshpreet has been supported by a supervisor who has encouraged her to stay confident and continue working hard toward her goals. She shares, “My supervisor has constantly supported and motivated me to do my best,” and credits Arjanita for reminding her “that it is important to always be confident in myself and to work hard to gain opportunities in life.” Looking ahead, Arshpreet says the experience has helped her discover new career possibilities, explaining, “Working in an outreach position has helped me hone my analytical skills that are crucial for an event marketing job.” She also found herself developing “a liking and interest toward a job in outreach too.”

We’re so grateful to Arshpreet for sharing her story and can’t wait to see how she continues to grow and make an impact in her future career 💻🌟

From the courtroom to career aspirations, meet Hannah Lin! 🏛️

Hannah Lin is spending her summer interning at the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, where she’s gaining firsthand insight into the criminal justice system. Throughout her internship, she’s attended trials, spoken with Assistant District Attorneys about active cases, listened to prison calls, reviewed police body camera footage, ran errands to the Supreme Court, and even toured the courthouse. Reflecting on her experience, Hannah shares, “Being able to intern at my worksite this summer has made me feel like I’m making a difference, and it’s something I’m proud of.” She credits her supportive supervisor and welcoming colleagues for making the experience especially meaningful, saying, “Being surrounded by such positive people has made this experience even better and I’m really grateful!” Most importantly, the internship has strengthened her career goals, explaining, “This experience gave me a better understanding of how the criminal justice system works and made me more confident that I want to be a prosecutor in the future.” She adds, “I’m always excited waking up in the morning to head to my internship... Being able to do something that I’m passionate about makes me really happy!”

Thank you, Hannah, for sharing your journey with us. We can’t wait to see all that you’ll accomplish as you continue pursuing your passion for justice and public service! 🔍📚

Every internship has a story and we are excited to introduce the second feature in our Intern Spotlight series, Destiny Uviles 📂

Destiny Uviles is a Ladders for Leaders alumni who spent two summers interning at BlackRock’s Manhattan office. During her first summer, she gained exposure to the finance industry by listening in on calls and collaborating on a team presentation. She returned the following summer to work on the Alternatives Investments team, where she conducted market research, joined senior level calls, and presented an investment portfolio recommendation for a hypothetical client. Looking back, Destiny reflects on how this opportunity shaped her future, sharing, “I didn’t realize at the time how impactful this opportunity would be until years later.” The experience ultimately sparked her interest in finance and the alternatives investment space while preparing her for future opportunities. Along the way, she also overcame imposter syndrome, sharing, “As a latina woman from Brooklyn, I had to navigate spaces I had never been taught how to.” Through that experience, she learned that she had “not only earned and deserved to be in these spaces,” and encourages future interns by reminding them, “Being patient with myself, deeply understanding the task at hand, and just trying my best is all anyone can do, so do it!”

We’re so proud of everything Destiny has accomplished and are grateful to have been a part of her journey. We can’t wait to see all that she continues to achieve! 🎉💫
