Outdoor Dining Reform is on the Menu
屋外ダイニング改革が議題に

This week, the NYC Hospitality Alliance's Max Bookman testified at a City Council hearing in support of reforms to improve Dining Out NYC (outdoor dining). If enacted, the reforms reduce unnecessary burdens on bars and restaurants, and remove barriers that deter others from participating because of regulatory hurdles and costs.

This post is to alert you to a great Japanese Shochu event near you. Japanese Shochu is growing in popularity and you now have more opportunities to learn about this great heritage product. This is particularly true since NYJRA Chief Administrative Officer John McCarthy was able to get legislation passed in New York and California that allows certain Shochu (with an ABV of 24% and less) to be sold by “soft” liquor license holders.
If you missed the premiere of the film “Spirit of Japan” a couple of weeks ago, there is another opportunity to see it at Brooklyn Kura this Sunday (8/17) at 6pm with a special cocktail event starting at 4pm. You can taste Shochu and learn from Shochu professionals about the distilling process and how to drink and enjoy Shochu.
The film is the product of Stephen Lyman .eats.drinks and Director Joseph Overbey and follows craft distilling Toji Tekkan Wakamatsu of Yamatozakura Distillery over the course of a distilling season
Tickets are free but kindly fill out the entry form on the Brooklyn Kura events page for purposes of head count. See you there. Kanpai!

The concept and philosophy of “Omotenashi” is the heart and soul of Japanese hospitality. It is where the concepts of hospitality and mindfulness meet for a truly welcoming experience and selfless service. It is quite simply what separates Japanese hospitality from all other experiences. Be sure to check out our Member restaurants and enjoy the Japanese hospitality they offer. Kanpai! #日本酒
