Today, we join many across Johnson County in mourning the passing of an extraordinary leader and friend, Diane Black.

Diane was part of the very first graduating class of the Leadership Johnson County Signature Program and soon after became our organization’s very first Program Coordinator. In those early years, she helped shape the heart and spirit of LJC through her leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving others.

Diane led with humility, kindness, and a true servant’s heart. Her impact on our organization and community was so profound that, upon her retirement, Leadership Johnson County proudly established the Diane Black Servant Leader Award in her honor — a recognition that continues to celebrate leaders who serve others with compassion and purpose, just as Diane did every day.

Bonnie Pribush and Tandy Shuck had the privilege of working closely with Diane for many years and will forever remember her remarkable leadership, her passion for people and community, and of course, her incredible laughter that could light up any room.

Her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched and the generations of leaders she inspired.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Diane’s family, friends, and all who loved her.

The excitement was REAL this week as we surprised students across Johnson County with the news that they have officially been selected for the Leadership Johnson County Youth Leadership Academy Class of 2027!

This year’s selection process was incredibly competitive, with nearly double the number of applicants as available seats. After thoughtful consideration, 48 outstanding students were slated for the class — representing every public high school in Johnson County along with Roncalli High School.

These young leaders stood out for their character, potential, involvement, and desire to make a difference in their schools and communities. We cannot wait to watch them grow, connect, serve, and lead together over the next year.

Congratulations, Class of 2027 — your leadership journey is just beginning!

Strong leadership isn’t about control—it’s about creating clarity, building trust, and modeling what accountability truly looks like.

In our workshop, “The Guardrails of Accountability,” we focused on how leaders set the tone. The right guardrails don’t limit a team—they empower it. When leaders communicate clear expectations, follow through consistently, and hold themselves accountable first, they create a culture where others can thrive.

Participants explored how leadership and accountability go hand-in-hand:
• Leaders model the behavior they expect
• Clear expectations eliminate confusion and build confidence
• Consistent follow-through strengthens trust across teams
• Accountability becomes a shared standard—not a top-down mandate

Because great leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about creating the environment where people can succeed.

Thank you Crane Credit Union for sponsoring the workshop!
