New Washington Community Quilters

New Washington Community Quilters The Community Quilters is a very active and vital ministry serving the community and surrounding counties. When she awoke, she knew exactly what she was to do.

They make and donate hundreds of quilts each year to various organizations and groups. After raising her family, Mary Barth of New Washington, felt the desire to find a meaningful mission for her life. She spent a night in prayer, asking God to reveal a direction for her. She was to make warm blankets for homeless folks. In 1992, she, along with a group of ladies from the New Washington United Met

hodist Church began to sew. They met in the church basement once a month and relying on donations of used blankets, used clothing, and fabric scraps, many warm blankets were sewn and donated to several local organizations which included Red Cross, Salvation Army, Harmony House, and My Very Own Blanket. Today the group now known as The New Washington Community Quilters meets monthly in St. John’s Lutheran Church basement. The group consists of ladies from all around the community and over 200 quilts are donated annually. Still relying on donations only, hundreds of folks are warmed by Mary’s vision and the work of a community of generous volunteers.
