Upcoming history event for kids at the Kemmerer Library on Saturday, June 13: Revolutionary Roots - A Visit from Author Robert Skead.

History comes alive with Robert Skead, author of the American Revolutionary War Adventure series. These books bring the past to life. In the interactive session, participants will explore New Jersey's pivotal role in the Revolution, George Washington's inspiring leadership, the secrets of the Culper Spy Ring, the innovative American Turtle submarine, the strategic importance of the Great Chain at West Point, the amazing saga of Benedict Arnold's attempt to give West Point to the British, and much more!

OPEN TODAY!

The Tunis-Ellicks House will be open for the Pathways of History Tour of Historic Places in Morris County on May 3 from 11 AM to 4PM. Historic re-enactor Bob Gula will portray a Continental Army Officer from the 3rd New Jersey Regiment, speaking at noon. 1 PM and 2 PM.

The museum will be open showing its permanent exhibit of Life on an 19th Century Farm, and a temporary exhibition of Native American artifacts found in and around Harding Township. Children can learn the craft of corn husk doll making. The Parlor Garden and the Tramp House will be open for tours.

Visit the encampment in Jockey Hollow this weekend.

Witness history come to life with musket demonstrations, kids’ muster, historic hikes and a glimpse into what camp life was like for the Continental Army when it was camped in Morristown.

This year’s annual Spring Encampment Weekend celebrates America 250, the semiquincentennial anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Highlights of the weekend include musket demonstrations, children’s drill, 18th century carpentry and other skills and a hike to the soldiers’ huts.

All events are free and open to the public.

Join us April 18 -19 at Jockey Hollow, located at 586 Tempe Wick Road, Morristown, NJ 07960

The event schedule is as follows:
Saturday, April 18
10:00 a.m. – Camp Opens
10:30 a.m. – Guided Hike to the Bettin Monument
11:00 a.m. – Inspection of the Troops & Military Drill
1:00 p.m. – Firing Demonstration & Drill
1:30 p.m. – Children’s Muster
3:00 p.m. – General Washington’s Grand Review & Firing Demonstration
4:00 p.m. – Visitor Center Closes (Park grounds open until sunset)

Sunday, April 19th
9:15 a.m. – 18th-Century Divine Service
10:00 a.m. – Camp Opens
10:00 a.m. – Hike to the Soldiers’ Huts (meets behind the Wick House)
12:30 p.m. – Inspection of the Troops & Military Drill
1:00 p.m. – Firing Demonstration & Drill
1:30 p.m. – Children’s Muster
3:00 p.m. – Firing Demonstration & Drill
4:00 p.m. – Camp Closes
