I personally and this page have been blocked by a rescue in Michigan. They posted a long and touching message about mental health of rescuers, and bullying. That would have been enough, but then they had to include a screen shot of a comment from more than a year ago by someone that has helped us. Why poke the hornets' nest and include that? The post was lovely without it.

And this was about a week after the group had posted about how they weren't going to engage in backbiting and were going to concentrate on the birds. That didn't last long.

I've been trying to avoid all the unnecessary drama in the avian rescue community, but I failed this time. I pointed out the inconsistencies in their posts, and that was unwelcome.

I've gone through my page and removed some of the things that I don't support, like free flights of parrots (exposes them to predators) and selling birds.

Yesterday, around sunset, the 3 greys got together on top of Naughel's cage for the first time. Echo decided to introduce himself. He was not welcomed with open wings. No physical contact was made, so no blood was spilled. I was surprised at Echo's bravery.

The 4 parakeets are out of quarantine now, and are getting to know the flock.

Petsmart is having a Buy 2 get 1 free sale. The cockatiels eat Harrison's and Zupreem Natural, so I was able to order 3 20lb bags for the cost of 2, and 6% back from Rakuten, and free shipping.

For some time, I've been wanted to transition the smalls to a pelleted diet. The cockatiels already eat pellets. The four parakeets that came in this week already eat pellets. So this seems like a good time to follow through with the transition. I put 2 dishes of super fine pellets in the parakeet and finch aviary, and the zebra finches didn't hesitate to dive in. The other dishes have their regular seed and pellets mix. But it seems that the finches are all for pellets.

New Recipe: Blueberry pancakes.

Ingredients:

1 flax egg (1tbs ground flaxseed + 3tbs water)
1 mashed banana
Pinch or 2 cinnamon (or more according to taste)
1/2 cup Harrison's mash
1/2 cup oat or almond milk (homemade to avoid unwanted ingredients)
1/4 cup blueberries (or more)
Add-ins - I put in some pumpkin seeds.

Make flax egg. Let sit for a few minutes. Add mashed banana and cinnamon. Mix in mash and nut milk. Add blueberries and add-ins, if using. Cook as per usual pancakes, except about a tablespoon or less per pancake. CAUTION: let cool completely. Blueberries hold heat for a long time.

When completely cooled, serve. Makes about 20 pancakes.

These are not the parrots' usual breakfast, so I got a lot of curious glances this morning.
