Fruit pizza for the win! So…..tonight was amazing, so amazing that I didn’t take any pictures 😒🫣

Thank you to the 14 individuals who came tonight and shared fun facts while we played the “yes or no game.” Have you ridden a horse? Have you gone camping? Do you have a favorite song? Have you seen a shooting star? and a few more random questions. We talked about Social Connections, what that means, why being socially involved is healthy and “broke bread” which is an ancient tradition to bring people together….yep, fruit pizza was an activity!

Special thank you to Peyton Keech, Medical Student, who is currently working at New Ulm Medical Center, for volunteering tonight and helping come up with activities.

This event was made possible with materials and grant dollars from The Heart of New Ulm in partnership with Brown County Public Health.

The next session will be Tuesday, November 24 at 6:30pm in Room 15, lower level, New Ulm Community Center and hosted with People First of New Ulm. I’m thinking Pumpkin Pie 🥧…..see you then!

Hope to see you at 6:30pm for a night of socializing with friends, games with prizes and snacks! Let’s Get Social is a five session event with materials from Heart of New Ulm and Brown County Public Health with info and resources to prevent social isolation. ARS in cooperation with People First of New Ulm will be hosting three of these sessions here in New Ulm. Please come, and bring a friend! Tonight, I’m hungry for fruit pizza. No RSVP is needed. See you this evening!

Feeling thankful today to live in such a giving community and know so many great people who see the advantages and share in the mission of ARS.

Last week, I received a message from Sarah asking if it would be okay if the Jake Johnson for Congress super group from New Ulm could choose ARS to receive a donation of the stipend they would receive from the Chamber of Commerce for volunteering as the tear-down crew for Oktoberfest. A great big YES! THANK YOU FOR THINKING OF US! was my immediate response. But….I also felt that I should pitch in
a. Because they chose ARS
b. Because this town is my home
c. Because these people are selfless and kind and I want to be included!

What was the objective of the super group? My thoughts and observations were; to show up for Jake Johnson’s campaign by wearing his t-shirt and answering any questions that people might ask and talk about a simply nice man running for congress BUT also to show up for their community and welcome all the visitors to New Ulm and show how welcoming our citizens can be.

It was an exhausting hour and a half. We ran our tails off, cleaned and lifted so many tables and benches: 20 tables per pallet and 40 benches per pallet…there were 10 of us! The $100 stipend was definitely earned, but the camaraderie and cooperation were PRICELESS!

Karaoke looked a little different tonight, but we went with it and had some fun. Our regular professional DJ had a mishap that will bring his planned retirement after our October show to now!

Desperado, we wish you well as you rest and heal. Thanks to the large CD library you’ve gifted us over the years, we were able to pivot and host Karrie-oke (see what we did there…wink, wink 😉) because “The Show Must Go On!”
