Atlantic Center for the Arts Volunteer League serves as the volunteer corps of Atlantic Center for the Arts. We aim to further the growth of arts in the New Smyrna Beach area, foster community interest, appreciation and support of Atlantic Center for the Arts, and annually award a scholarship to a New Smyrna Beach High School senior who is majoring in the arts or art related field.

Members of the Atlantic Center for the Arts Volunteer League were truly feeling the love last week at their annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. Magic filled the air at the lovely event! Every member took home a beautiful orchid. It all happens every year because of Buddy Davenport and his generous heart. Three outstanding members received special awards - 2 tickets to a year's worth of ACA Live performances. Thank you to the ACA staff and Board of Trustees who made this event memorable and special. We are ready to get back to work with full hearts because of the generous spirits that took time to show their appreciation.

ACAVL appreciates all the potential members that gathered for the “Art of the Party” at the exquisite Arts on Douglas gallery this week. If all those passionate faces that attended become members, we can declare the ACAVL membership drive a success right now❗️We are always on the lookout for additional members who are able to help us achieve even more for our beloved Atlantic Center for the Arts. Doris Leeper, our founder, once said, “Volunteer in your community. Give some of your time to the arts and the environment. You’ll meet some wonderful people.” She was right ❗️

Celebrated 30 years of Arts on Douglas last night and also enjoyed meeting potential new members to our League. The event had a happy vibe and how cool to be surrounded by a number of Doris Leeper paintings and sculpture. That doesn’t happen often❗️Thanks Meghan Martin, for planning such a great event but most of all, for leading A o D to be the great exhibition space it is.

Fabulous league meeting today - our Madam President lead us through an interesteing February
agenda. We were able to meet two associate artists from the residency taking place now who are working on cardboard puppets. They plan to bring to life, “Carnival of the Nearly Extinct Animals” by composer Stephanie Ann Boyd.
See it performed at “Inside Out” on the ACA campus Thurs., Feb. 27 from 6 - 8 pm. The performance is 30 minutes long with 13 life size animal puppets that the artist have created - including an elephant. It should be magnificent ❗️

Everybody knows ACAVL members love it when children create art❗️ So many sweet faces and precious families found at the 50th Images Arts Festival last weekend‼️Starting the young ones out right. Actually all ages were welcome. Upward Trend Academy sponsorship helps this great event happen. Future Images artists❓❗️

Almost exactly a year ago, ACA presented the prestigious Spirit Enrichment Award to our dear friend, Doug McGinnis. This special award celebrates individuals who make significant contributions to enrich the culture, creativity and community around us. Edward Albee, Margie Pabst Steinmetz, Susan and Chapman Root, and Jacques Cousteau are others who have received this respected award. Doris Leeper showed a rare display of emotion when she was a recipient of the Spurit Enrichment Award. Doug’s significant contributions can be felt throughout the ACA campus and Volusia County. It was satisfying to attend the event to see Doug appropriately receive this distinguished award. We hold Doug in the highest esteem!

The ACAVL education committee did an amazing job distributing copies of Doris Leeper’s biography throughout our community. The idea was to place copies of “ Doris Leeper: Legacy of a Visionary” in various high traffic offices, and waiting rooms in New Smyrna Beach, spreading the word about our founder and NSB history. Chair Deborah Bader Lytle lead the committee through the formidable task of placing 70 copies in places all over our town. Job well done!
