On this feast of St. Joseph Cafasso, we remember Don Bosco’s beloved meteor, whom Pope Pius XI referred to as, “The pearl of the Italian clergy."

Fr. Cafasso passed on a deeper understanding of St. Francis de Sales’ spirituality that he imparted to his protégée, a young Don Bosco. Additionally, he served as Don Bosco’s spiritual director from 1841 to 1860.

Don Bosco always remembered Fr. Cafasso, who was known as “the prisoners’ priest” for his work with the incarcerated, and he helped to form and guide Don Bosco's and ultimately our Salesian spirituality. Indeed, Fr. Cafasso always did ordinary things extraordinarily well.

Happy Father’s Day! Today we thank God for all the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, mentors, and all paternal figures in our lives. And we give thanks for God Our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, St. Joseph, and St. John Bosco.

We’re also excited to share the photos in this collage surrounding our spiritual father, Don Bosco (going down from the left, then across and up to the right), of Fr. Tito Iannacio’s parents, Fr. Dave Sajdak and his folks, Fr. Jim Heuser and his family, Fr. Tom Gwozdz and his parents in Rome after his ordination, Fr. Larry Gilmore and his brother and dad, and Fr. Jim Berning and his parents.

Lord, we pray you bless and guide us, our paternal figures, and our families, now and always. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Today we commemorate Juneteenth in the U.S. On this federal holiday, we remember the emancipation of African American slaves. We pray for the advancement of social justice and an end to racism. Lord, please grant us peace, justice, and equality for all. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

The St. John Bosco-St. James Parish: Chicago community recently came together to celebrate two profound expressions of faith: the feast of Mary Help of Christians and the solemnity of Corpus Christi. Hundreds of parishioners—both young and young at heart—walked side-by-side to proclaim their deep love for Christ and His Blessed Mother, showcasing a vibrant example of Salesian Family spirit.

On Sunday, June 14, the Salesian Cooperators from the St. Dominic Savio Salesian Cooperator Center in Hernando saw the film Sacred Heart: His Reign Has No End in Ocala, Fla.

It was moving and definitely worth seeing. The film really made the connection between the devotion of the Sacred Heart to the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It featured modern-day testimonials and absolutely beautiful illustrations of astonishing miracles. The movie reminded us of Jesus's boundless love for us and that He always forgives.

Earlier this month, 37 young people gathered to participate in the Valdocco Retreat, hosted by the ESCOGE team in Montreal, QC.

The retreat was organized excellently. The reflection focused on the four points of the 2026 Strenna: see, listen, decide, and act. There were many moments of spiritual enrichment for the participants, especially daily Eucharist and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Happy Solemnity of the Immaculate Heart of Mary! Let’s pray the Memorare to our Blessed Mother and entrust everything in her hands.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Happy solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus! Let’s pray the Memorare to Christ’s Sacred Heart and offer up all the intentions we hold in our hearts.

Remember, O most kind Jesus, that none who have had recourse to Your Sacred Heart, implored its assistance, or called for mercy, have ever been abandoned.

Filled and animated by this same confidence, O divine Heart, Ruler of all hearts, I fly to You, and oppressed beneath the weight of my sins, I prostrate myself before You.

Despise not Your unworthy child, but grant me, I pray, an entrance into Your Sacred Heart. Sustain me in all my combats and be with me now, and at all times, but especially in the hour of my death. O gracious Jesus! O amiable Jesus! O loving Jesus! Amen.
