The First Professions of Br. Francis Chazhikattu and Br. Timothy Hughes!!

I have a lot of favorite moments as a member of the Salesian family, but there is something just unreal about seeing men take their first public steps in giving their lives over to the Lord.
By sharing this series of pictures, I am hoping you’ll get a fuller picture of August 15, 2026.

Here is some of what you’re seeing:
- Franky greeting his family before Mass in the clothes he chose to enter in.
- Franky and Tim’s joy waiting for the Mass to begin
- The Calling and Presentation - Rite of Religious Professions!!! Our soon-to-be brothers standing in front of Father Provincial, aka Fr. Dominic.
- Fr. Dom sits and receives them, acting in place of the Rector Major, Fr. Fabio - the 11th Successor of Don Bosco.
- Fr. Dominic gives a beautiful homily on saying “yes” to God and leaning on Jesus so we can trust.
- After making their vows publicly for one year, Brs. Franky and Tim walk out for the first time in their clerics.
- The brothers now sit with the rest of the Salesians on the left side.
- Their parents brought up the gifts, a beautiful symbol of them giving their sons as a gift to the Church, to YOU AND ME!
- A beautiful sign of peace
- A final blessing over the new Brothers
- The joy and chaos after Mass
- Our Salesians!! Brothers and priests!!
- Our Salesians and Salesian sisters!
- The joy of family celebrating a life-changing moment after Mass with the fun of getting organized for pictures
- Salesian Family BBQ!

Let’s continue to pray for our brothers, for the other men in formation, and for all of those discerning their call to religious life.

Lord, give them the courage to say yes and the grace to sustain that yes! Amen.

Our God Who Loves to GIVE

It’s written everywhere, for thousands of years before Jesus, during His life, and for the thousands after. Our God loves to give. He meets us in our need for Him, in our human need, and gives in abundance.

He is so good.
He gives us the bread of eternal life to sustain us and then more.
And it can look different person to person... He meets us in the places we need Him; sometimes before we ask, He gives more. In my own life, I see it: sometimes it’s what I’ve asked for, and it looks different than I expected, or I hadn’t even thought to ask, and there it is, laid out for me. Sometimes it’s a parking spot or extra time with a friend. Sometimes it’s prayer that’s deep and moves my heart closer, or it’s a thought that brings me back to Jesus. Sometimes it’s twelve wicker baskets.

He wants us, and I really believe He loves to give because He can’t help it. It’s that feeling when you love someone so much, you don’t keep count of what you’re giving; you just do it.

He wants nothing in between us, and so His love and grace overflow like the bread and fish multiplied for us now and then. He feeds us in a way that nothing else can; nothing else will satisfy.
So, that longing you might have for more is normal; invite the Lord to meet you there and help you see how much He is giving you now.

Lord, open my eyes to the abundance only you have created in my life. Thank you for your body, the bread of life. Amen.

The Ordination to the Priesthood of Fr. Tom Junis, SDB!!
One month of our friend laying down his life for us!

Here’s what Fr. Tom shared about what this month has been like: “One month as a Salesian priest. It has been quite the honeymoon. It has been beautiful to celebrate Mass at home, on Gospel Roads in New Orleans, and at Life Teen Camp Hidden Lake in Georgia, and to hear my first confessions. I am in awe that the Lord lets me share in his mission in this way, to feed his people through the Eucharist and to pour out his mercy and forgiveness in the sacrament of reconciliation. I have sensed so strongly the working of God’s grace and the Holy Spirit like I have celebrating these two sacraments. I see in a new way why they were so important to Don Bosco and the preventive system; through them, we can become the saints God has called us to be.”

Let’s pray for Fr. Tom, may his heart always be one that seeks Jesus first. Amen!

It’s usually very hard for me to pick favorites, but the 4th of July has always been just that. I grew up sitting on the beach with family and friends, playing all day, eating delicious cheeseburgers my dad made for everyone, my mom getting us ready to watch fireworks, playing kickball in our red, white, and blue outfits until the beach chairs were put back out to watch the fireworks. We always made the effort to celebrate, to get dressed in our nation’s colors, to mark the day. I grew up in a family really proud to be American; there are a lot of military in my family, and I’m the granddaughter of two Cuban immigrants. Freedom does not come without sacrifice.

Throughout my life, I’ve heard of the beauty that is the United States of America, founded on ideals meant to stretch us beyond our human frailties and safeguard us when we fail to meet them. 250 years ago, democracy was monumental. It was wild and foolish and thought to fail. I know I take it for granted. I take freedom for granted. I take walking into church for granted. I take disagreeing for granted. I take laws and roads for granted. I take voting for granted. There’s so much, and yet, like any country, the USA is not perfect and never has been.

I love that we can celebrate a huge milestone and, like every year before, keep striving for the ideal set for us in 1776. That we could follow our bishops and entrust our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, ask for the protection and intercession of our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, and pray for our civil leaders.

Don Bosco taught the boys to be good Christians and honest (or upright) citizens. It’s not one or the other. As Christians, we have the opportunity to engage with our faith in a real way. To love our neighbor even when we don’t agree, understand, or have been hurt by them. It’s a Christian practice to contribute and to live actively in a community because it pulls us out of ourselves and places us perfectly in service of those around us.

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out the laborers for his harvest”

This week we are especially thankful for the “yes” of our Salesian priests and brothers. Their yes helps us to grow in our relationship with God.

One of my favorite things that I have found as I’ve gotten to know the Salesians over the past six years is how they are able to walk with young people in both the fun and serious moments. The same priest who is running around throwing water balloons at you, is also bringing you Jesus in adoration or hearing your confession and the same brother who is break dancing at the dance party, is helping you find Jesus in the everyday.

In a special way we pray for Deacon Tom Junis as he prepares for his ordination to the priesthood at the end of the month. We thank God for his “yes” and Him to be with Deacon Tom over the next two weeks.

A pierced heart is an open heart.

The outpouring of the blood and water is not only a gift but an invitation to enter. Approaching this gentle and humble heart of Jesus will never leave us where we are. There is not authentic devotion without transformation. He pours out his grace but in our freedom we must choose participation, surrender, the innocence of a child, the humility of a disciple and the courage of an apostle. Jesus I want my heart to look like yours.

Today I choose to draw close, to leave no distance between us, I desire to enter into your most sacred heart, pierced and open for me. May my steps not be selfish and may there be no desire to grasp, but may this be my home and refuge for to rest and to be made new. Your heart is food for the journey. It is water for new life. It is grace for true love.

O most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I hope and trust in you.

The 2026 Young Adult Retreat!!

We dove into our theme. “Do whatever He tells you, believers, free to serve.”

It’s hard for God’s goodness to be missed during weekends like this. He shows off. He brings us in. He provides; he’s generous through others.
I’m so thankful that, at the start of every summer, we get to begin it together at this beautiful camp, living, praying, and sharing life.
He is so good and so close, and He wants us to keep meeting Him.
We hope you keep asking, to whom you belong, where your heart is, and, at the end, show up and say yes!

Thank you, Jesus, for this gift of time with you and the family you have given me. Amen.
