📸 Applications are OPEN for our Arts & Activism Summer Photography Program!

This August, teens will spend three weeks learning to capture powerful images while exploring the social issues that matter most to them — guided by teaching artists Barry Mason and Marisa Scheinfeld.

🗓️ August 10–27 | Mon–Thu, 9am–1pm
📍 SUNY Westchester Community College, Valhalla Campus
🎓 Open to high school students (grades 8–12)

No experience needed — just bring your curiosity and your perspective. You'll walk away with real skills, a portfolio of your work, and a deeper connection to your community.

Photography can be more than art- it can be a way to process emotions and tell stories that are hard to put into words.

Last year in our Arts & Activism summer program, one student used photography to explore grief after losing her mother. Her images said what words couldn’t.

This summer, we’re expanding the program so more Westchester teens can do the same- exploring identity, community, and personal experience through the lens.

We’re raising $10,000 to keep the program accessible to every student who needs it. If you believe in the power of youth storytelling, we’d love your support. 📷

This past Saturday, the Westchester Youth Alliance joined forces with the YMCA, Senator Shelley Mayer’s office, and Family Services of Westchester, with sponsorship from the New York Community Trust, for the Second Annual Teen Changemaker Summit & Civic Symposium — and our young leaders did not disappoint!

We are thrilled to announce the first place winners, who have been awarded $500 in seed funding to bring their vision to life! Zach and Ben from Scarsdale and Loremy from Yonkers joined forces to tackle the opportunity gap in after-school clubs — recognizing how inequalities in extracurricular access ripple into skill development and future prospects. Through the Westchester Youth Club Network, these three changemakers are working to connect students across all of Westchester, building a more equitable landscape for every teen in our community. Congratulations — we cannot wait to watch this project take root!

Our second and third place teams were equally inspiring — addressing transportation inefficiencies, human rights protections for immigrants, and teen mental health. Each group showed up with bold ideas, real solutions, and the courage to be the change they wish to see in the world.

We are incredibly proud of every team that presented — for the hard work, creative thinking, and heart they poured into identifying real community problems and proposing tangible solutions.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful judges — Angel Gray, Shelley Mayer, and Ray Sanchez — for your time, thoughtfulness, and dedication to our youth.

The future of Westchester is in good hands! 🙌🏽

Adanhyr, we could not be prouder of you and all that you have accomplished. Your ambition and compassion are unmatched — you have overcome incredible challenges, found your voice, and have been using it to lift others ever since. Join us for the 2nd Annual Teen Changemaker Summit & Civic Symposium on April 25th at the White Plains Public Library! 🙌🏾🎉

Come connect with other teens who care about making a difference, get inspired, and find out how YOU can be part of the change in your community.

🌅 Morning session — Open to ALL Westchester teens grades 8–12! Participate in workshops, connect with peers from across the county, and explore what it means to be a changemaker.

🎤 Afternoon session — Watch 15+ teen-led community action projects presented to judges, community leaders, and special guests including County Executive Ken Jenkins and State Senator Shelley Mayer.

Workshop 5 was one for the books! Best-selling author, motivational speaker, and executive producer of the Youth Empowerment Show, Carl Michel brought the inspiration, the real talk, and a whole new level of excitement to our Civic Engagement workshop series!

Our Changemakers reflected on their values, who they surround themselves with, and the choices that shape their futures. Carl coached our teens on public speaking, led an incredibly empowering podcast segment, and signed copies of his best-selling book 365 Hip-Hop: Daily Motivational Quotes. The vibes were unmatched and teens left with fresh perspectives, sharper skills, and some awesome swag!

A huge thank you to Carl and his team for an unforgettable afternoon — our Changemakers are fired up and ready for what's next!!
