Energy Justice Alliance

Energy Justice Alliance We are a BIPOC-led coalition that advocates for energy justice in New York and against fossil fuels. Green Westchester is a founding member of the Alliance.

We demand that our communities have a seat at the table when decisions are made about energy at all levels and fight for economic justice, jobs and climate action. Our work is guided by the Jemez Principles of Democratic Organizing. The Energy Justice Alliance is convened by the Energy Justice Law and Policy Center (EJLPC).

Energy Justice Alliance’s very own, Raya Salter, was featured on “Empire State of Carbon” a podcast exploring New York climate policy and politics, hosted by John Raskin (Spring Street Climate Fund) and Juan-Pablo Vélez (Win Climate)

The episode: Inside The Fight to Shut Down NY’s Power Plants (ft. Raya Salter)

There’s no way around it: in the next 15 years, we have to replace all of New York’s fossil fuel power plants with renewables.

Unsurprisingly, the fossil fuel industry is fighting this future tooth and nail, insisting they can keep their plants open by using false solutions like carbon capture, renewable natural gas, and green hydrogen. This fight, which has been raging for years, is coming to ahead.

Renowned energy justice attorney and advocate Raya Salter joins John and Juan-Pablo to break down the policy and politics of shutting down New York’s power plants. This episode covers:

- Why do we need to shut down existing plants?
-What are false solutions, and why don’t they work?
-And what does the Public Service Commission’s zero emissions proceeding have to do with all this?
