Lifetime Arts, Inc. We combine bold ideas, strategies + people to weave creative aging into the fabric our communities.

Lifetime Arts is a nationally recognized nonprofit transforming the way our society understands and experiences aging through the arts. Since 2008, we have been at the forefront of the creative aging movement—an evidence-based practice that combines arts participation with social engagement to foster healthy aging. Our team has trained over 11,000 professionals and supported the launch of more tha

n 1,000 programs across 44 states. Together with a network of more than 6,000 partners, we are working to combat isolation, challenge ageism, and celebrate lifelong creativity. By bridging vision and action, we embed creative aging practices into public health, cultural policy, and aging services—ensuring that creativity is recognized as essential to well-being at every stage of life.

This week, we were graciously hosted by The Harlem School of the Arts for the first part of our creative aging training with a fantastic group of teaching artists as part of our project, "Culture and Care: Healthy Aging Through the Arts in NYC Neighborhoods."

Through this city-wide initiative, we’re supporting sustainable partnerships between community arts organizations and senior-serving partners to co-create programs shaped by older adults’ identities, histories, and creative goals across Harlem, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.

"The incredible range of artistic practices, lived experiences, perspectives, and community expertise of this group of teaching artists is what will bring this project’s vision to life—supporting older adults’ health and well-being through creative aging engagement that is deeply embedded in the community. And a shout out to our equally incredible Lifetime Arts Trainers: Annie Montgomery, Daniela Del Giorno, and Asma Feyijinmi!" - Julie Kline, Director of Program Strategy

Part two of the training will focus on creating responsive, flexible creative aging curricula across art forms, followed by one-on-one coaching for each teaching artist. The momentum continues as programs begin rolling out this summer and fall! ✨

Before we can advocate for creative aging in policy and funding spaces, we first have to understand what we mean by “the arts.”

Our national policy brief explores how visual, performing, literary, digital, and cultural arts all support healthy aging through creativity, connection, and purpose. And creative aging (the practice of intentional artistic and creative engagement) is showing up everywhere: libraries, museums, senior centers, universities, and even healthcare systems through “arts on prescription” partnerships.

For funders and decision-makers, this work is valuable. The more clearly we can link the arts to health and wellness outcomes, the stronger the case becomes for investing in older adults and their communities.

Championing our health starts with creativity! This Older Americans Month, we’re putting creative aging where it belongs: at the heart of how we think about growing older.

Over the past year, alongside our partners and supporters, we’ve advanced policy and advocacy, launched arts and health pilots, and built strong statewide coalitions. Our latest newsletter highlights how we’re building this momentum and expanding creative aging's role in health and wellbeing.
