that actor Russell Johnson, also known as "The Professor" on the 1960s television show, Gilligan's Island, was a World War II ? He joined the Air Corps during and served as a B-25 bombardier on missions over the Pacific, breaking his ankles in 1945 when his plane was shot down over the Philippines. He is a Purple Heart recipient and is credited with flying 44 combat missions as a bombardier.
