I am writing regarding a recent Facebook post stating that the nominations and elections for the Board of Directors were conducted at the May 14th quarterly board meeting. You correctly noted that all nominations were for current board members running for their second term, and that with no nominations from the floor, those members were elected by acclamation. This is consistent with GOEA’s updated procedures.
However, the statement that no advance notice was given prior to the meeting is incorrect. The agenda clearly stated Board of Directors Nominations. If there would have been any nominations, a ballot would be prepared and used for the election at the Annual Meeting on June 18th.
GOEA’s instruction was to post the meeting agenda indicating that Board of Directors nominations would take place. This requirement was met. The agenda was posted on the Pointe Coupee Council on Aging page on April 30th—two weeks prior to the quarterly meeting—and was also posted on the door of the Council on Aging office. These postings satisfy GOEA’s requirements for prior notice. The state office has confirmed in writing that all requirements were properly followed.
