The Helicopter Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of vintage rotorcraft and their colorful history. Our interests include not only the machines, but the stories of the people connected to them—whether designers, crew or passengers. As our name suggests, we are committed to providing stewardship of these important cultural resources to safeguard them fo

r present and future generations to experience. We are also dedicated to promoting a better public understanding of rotorcraft aeronautics—the principles of rotary wing flight—through future exhibits and workshops. Our collections focus on developments of the late 1940s through the 1960s, the period in which the helicopter came of age. It was during this time that the "look" of the modern helicopter became firmly established and helicopters completed their transformation from curiosities of limited capability to powerful, highly-adaptable workhorses that we now find indispensible. Of particular note are the innovative US military helicopters of the Korean and Vietnam War eras, which were testbeds of new forms of military operations and aerial rescue that are now standard practice. These helicopter designs have proven surprisingly long-lived and many are still in use today. We're currently raising funds to support our oral history program, our helicopter restoration work, and also to establish a helicopter museum. Please contact us to ask how you can get involved. If you have a personal connection to helicopter history and have a story to tell or personal items to share, we'd love to hear from you. History is built on the experience of individuals and your story is important to us!

Consider making a donation to the Helicopter Conservancy this Giving Tuesday, November 29! ❤️ We depend on support from people like you to make our charitable programs possible, such as the recent hosting of a drill day for the Osceola Sea Cadets. During this event, each cadet had an opportunity to learn the basics of piloting a helicopter under the guidance of an experienced pilot on our simulator. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and your contribution is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

The Osceola Sea Cadets stopped by on 10/23 to learn about helicopters. After attending a "ground school" lecture on the principles of helicopter flight, led by LCDR Brandon Montanye, USN (Ret.), the cadets explored the hangar and got hands-on experience flying our Huey simulator. Retired Huey pilot Mitch Madison was also on hand to teach the finer points of piloting and to talk about his own career. Everyone had a great time, and who knows--maybe a future pilot or crew chief will emerge from this event!
