"Women Veterans Recognition Day is not a separate Veterans Day for women. The day, celebrated yearly on June 12, recognizes, honors and remembers the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act (pub.L. 80–625, 62 Stat. 356), allowing women the right to permanently serve in the regular armed forces."

Introduction of our 2026 Freedom Fest New Richmond, Ohio Grand Marshal’s for the parade July 4th at 11am.

Rocky and Bonnie Volpp
Richard “Rocky” Volpp is a lifetime member of the New Richmond Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion, serving as an officer position at both posts. He and his wife Bonnie have been married for over 50 years. In 1970 at 22 years old Rocky joined the Army as an Infantryman. He served over a year in Berlin and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and The Army Occupation Medal for his service in West Berlin during the Cold War.

Bonnie is a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and is affectionately known as the “Buddy Poppy lady.” She marches alongside our Veterans at parades passing out Buddy Poppies. She can also be found at almost every VFW or American Legion event selling split the pot raffle tickets.

The VFW “Buddy” Poppy refers to the memory of the men and women who served, fought and died in France during World War 1, as a symbol of all those who gave their lives in our nation’s wars. It is because of her diligence and support, that we have raised thousands of dollars to support needy and disabled veterans and the surviving family members of deceased veterans.

We want to thank Rocky and Bonnie for their years of service to our community, and unwavering support of the New Richmond VFW and American Legion Post 550 New Richmond, Ohio.
