*****MESSAGE FROM SCOTT COUNTY WATERSHED MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION*****

Recently property owners within the Cedar Lake Improvement taxing district in Scott County received a postcard with information on a survey to complete for Cedar Lake. An address sorting error in Excel resulted in labels being printed with the wrong taxpayer and address. Please know this is an isolated incident, no one is receiving your information, this is not a permanent error in the system, it was a separate downloaded list of properties for this taxing district that was used for this mailing only. There is no need to call Scott County and request a change, all your correct information is unchanged in the system. We apologize for the error, and we would appreciate if those of you that received the postcard, would be willing to provide your input in the survey before Dec. 13

The postcards with the correct labels, will be going out this week.

Here is the link to the survey, if you don't want to wait for the card.

CARP UPDATE!
The last few weeks have been a bit smelly around the lake in certain areas. Well, we got an update from the DNR of what they feel caused the carp population to decrease significantly! The carp in Cedar became infected with a virus, Koi Herpes Virus (KHV). Here is a link to some information on it: https://maisrc.umn.edu/khv (MAISRC) (umn.edu) It only affects the common carp and koi and has an 80% to 100% mortality. On June 17th, the DNR was out electrofishing and only found 1 carp and it was not weak. KHV does not pose a threat to humans or domestic animals.

Cyprinid Herpes Virus-3 (CyHV-3) Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) is a DNA virus that causes a highly contagious acute disease exclusively in common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and its ornamental variety, koi carp. KHV has never been associated with disease in any other species. More about KHV.

SEE UPDATE!!

Many of you may have seen the excess amount of dead carp around the lake. We are aware of the issue and have been working with the Scott County Watershed Management. They have been reporting our observations to the DNR. Stay tuned! As soon as we have updates, we will post updates out here.

CEDAR LAKE LEVEL UPDATE!
As we all have seen, the lake is up over normal levels and water is flowing over the overflow on the north end of the lake. With the higher levels, some have asked about the initiation of "No Wake zones." At this time, there is NOT a "no wake zone" near shores, however we ask that you use common sense. We do not want to see erosion on the shoreline, so if you are using a large wake producing watercraft, please "play" away from the shoreline. The lake level will go done over time and back to "normal" levels.

If you are on the north end of the lake and see that overflow with debris and restricted flow, please let the sheriffs department (non-emergency 952-445-1411) or one of the CLID board member know about the situation.

Play safe and enjoy the lake!

SHALLOW WATER MARKERS are out!
Just off the point on the east side of the lake the shallow water markers have been put out. These DO NOT mark rocks but actually mark a road that was created during the dust bowl when farmers went out onto the lakebed to harvest bulrushes to feed the cattle.

REMEMBER--your boat is not a horse and wagon so stay away from the markers. Recall those words from your parents--"Stay off the road!"

Another Fourth of July Boat Parade is in the books!

Below is just a sample of all the great looking boats that participated in this year's parade. Even with a slight rain delay, it was a great success. Thanks to all who participated and to all of the spectators!

Clean In, Clean Out

As you head out on the lake this summer, remember to do your part. Clean-Drain-Dry all boats, trailers, gear, and other watercraft. Invasive species often spread on watercraft trailers, in boat hulls, on docks and on lifts. Also remember to trash unused bait or bring water from home to preserve minnows and leaches. Do not dump bait in lake. We need your help to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

Learn more at https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/preventspread_watercraft.html and take the pledge to protect Minnesota waters.
