Concerned Parents of New Paltz An in*******al advocacy group dedicated to help ensure equal treatment for all students, teachers, and staff members within the New Paltz school district.

Meetings: 1st Tuesday of the month. Concerned Parents of New Paltz founded this group as the result of the following:

1. The knowledge that racism and discrimination are general problems in the American society which negatively impact children and youth (not only children of color). They also create an educational climate which makes it difficult for youth to maximize their potential.

2. The awa

reness that children of color are disproportionately represented in general and special education courses and under-represented in college preparatory, regents, and gifted talented programs.

3. The awareness that students of color are over-represented in the ranks of the detained and suspended students, and in the ranks of those who leave school without diplomas.

4. The concern for lack of hiring of teachers and administrators of color, who can serve as role models and interpreters.

5. The concern for the general climate and lack of diversity training programs for teacher, administrators and other personnel in the district.
