Each year, NPUT raises funds for scholarships to be given to graduating seniors. These scholarships are given to honor the legacy of our members who have dedicated their careers to the students of NPCSD, and when applicable, in memory of any of our members we have lost throughout the year.

In recent years, we have been pleased to offer the Valedictorian and Salutatorian scholarships of $1,000 each. Additionally we provide 8 $500 scholarships to students who intend to pursue studies in the field of education OR who demonstrate a passion in their own educational pursuits.

This year, it is fitting that our scholarships were given in memory of a woman who began her local educational journey as a student in the two-room schoolhouse - The Gardiner School, later attending middle school and high school in New Paltz. She returned to New Paltz at the age of 20 to begin a 37 year teaching career that culminated with her retirement in 1993. It is our hope that this year's recipients of the NPUT Scholarships will carry on the legacy of Vivian Benenati.

Congratulations to Andres Galvan (Valedictorian), Lukas Kallio (Salutatorian), Willa Ashton, Ella Brassard, J.P. Fabella, Heath Lester, Wren MacDonald, Maxwell Strauchler, Mia Welz, and Shane Yess!

Unfortunately, we did not get many pictures. Social Media friends, please help us by tagging these folks/their family members, and if anyone caught a pic, share it with us here!

NPUT Spotlight: First Grade

These 5 exceptional first-grade teachers at Duzine Elementary School bring just over 100 years of combined experience, dedication, and passion to guiding young learners through a very important foundational year. As students build early literacy, math, and social skills, these teachers have navigated evolving literacy curriculum to help transform emerging readers/writers into confident learners. For years, their classrooms have extended beyond the four walls into real-world learning experiences at the Millbrook Preserve, the Green Classroom garden, while exploring geography, Hudson Valley wildlife, and so much more. What a team!

Today, 9 NPUT members earned their Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification and completed Narcan training. These folks put in 8 after school hours this week to work through the curriculum with Mathew and Elise from The Maya Gold Foundation.

Through NPUT’s Local Action Project and campaign, members had the costs of their materials and meals covered. This is a tough time of year to tack 8 extra hours onto a week, but attendees felt it was worthwhile. Several other NPUT members are already looking fwd to another cohort being offered next year.

Did You Know?

Parents, educators, administrators, and Board of Education members all share the same goal: helping our students learn, grow, and thrive.

While there may be different perspectives on how best to achieve that goal, our shared commitment to supporting children remains the foundation of every conversation.

As the Board of Education continues its discussion about Chromebook and technology use in our schools, we encourage community members to attend tonight’s meeting and hear directly from the dedicated educators who work with students every day.

Join us tonight to learn more, listen to the discussion, and be part of a community committed to supporting students. We are all on the same team, and that team is focused on our students.

Together, we can ensure every student has the tools, opportunities, and support they need to succeed.
