TEACHER BRAG: Melissa Gruver-LaPolt!

Every Thursday in October, New Paltz Schools are turning PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month—and we have Melissa Gruver-LaPolt to thank for helping make it happen!

Each year, Melissa spearheads our local campaign to support breast cancer awareness. This year, she had an amazing idea: bring the entire NPCSD community together in “Pink with a Purpose” shirts every Thursday in October to show our unity and support. 💕👚

Today was our first Pink Shirt Day, and more than 80 NPCSD members proudly rocked their pink!

But the impact goes beyond wearing pink. Thanks to Melissa’s leadership and the generosity of our school community, NPCSD has already helped raise more than $1,000 for the Miles of Hope Foundation—the largest donation we’ve made to date! 🎉

That is what happens when one person has an idea, gets others involved, and turns it into action.

So, THANK YOU, MELISSA, for your leadership, heart, and commitment to making a difference in our school community and beyond!

And to everyone in NPCSD: Join us every Thursday in October—wear your pink and wear it with a purpose! 💗

Teacher brag on Will Halpern!

He organized, got all the missing emergency slips, secured chaperones and took 50 8th Grade Chorus members to see the final dress rehearsal of La Bohème at The Met Opera in NYC on September 23. How cool that our students went to the best opera house in the world and saw the most frequently performed opera in Met Opera history!

Special shout as well to those who volunteered to chaperone so that this trip could be the amazing success that it was.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the survivors, first responders, educators, and communities who carried one another through unimaginable loss.

As a teachers union, we reaffirm the values that guide our work every day: compassion, solidarity, courage, and care for one another.

We remember. We honor. We stand together.

We hope our newest NPUT members had as much fun in their classrooms today as we did at our first new member meeting of the year at Little Loaf Bakeshop. Here’s hoping that the school year is as amazing as the goodies we shared together were!

’Twas the night before school, and all through the town,
The summer was ending, the sun going down.
The backpacks were ready, the pencils were packed,
The new school year was coming—there was no looking back.

The schedules were posted, the classrooms looked bright,
New notebooks were waiting, new friendships in sight.

The teachers had all planned, and tomorrow would bring
New challenges, new learning, and all kinds of things.

So welcome back, students! The first day is near—
A brand-new beginning to start off the year.
With curiosity, courage, and kindness in sight,
Happy first day to all—and to all a good night!
