Today is the last Saturday of April, and you may see posts circulating about something called “International Day of Amphibian Conservation,” “World Amphibians Day,” or other variations. 🐸
Those events don’t exist. They’re misnomers for Save The Frogs Day, organized by SAVE THE FROGS! annually since 2009.
Here’s where it gets interesting: for many years, Save The Frogs Day was celebrated on the last Saturday of April. So when someone posts a misnomer today, they’re actually referring (often without knowing it) to Save The Frogs Day — the world’s original day of amphibian conservation.
Here’s every Save The Frogs Day, since 2009:
April 28, 2009 (Tuesday) — inaugural
April 30, 2010 (Friday)
April 29, 2011 (Friday)
April 28, 2012 (Saturday)
April 27, 2013 (Saturday)
April 26, 2014 (Saturday)
April 25, 2015 (Saturday)
April 30, 2016 (Saturday)
April 29, 2017 (Saturday)
April 28, 2018 (Saturday)
April 27, 2019 (Saturday)
April 25, 2020 (Saturday)
April 24, 2021 (Saturday)
April 30, 2022 (Saturday)
April 28, 2023 (Friday) — return to fixed date
April 28, 2024 (Sunday)
April 28, 2025 (Monday)
April 28, 2026 (Tuesday)
For 11 years (2012–2022), we celebrated on the last Saturday of April.
Since 2023, the date is permanently April 28th, every year — matching the inaugural date from 2009.
So if you’re planning to post about amphibian conservation soon, here’s how to do it right:
✅ Use the correct event name: Save The Frogs Day
