Last night, the Urban League of Louisiana honored our Executive Director, Alanah Odoms, at its Annual Gala. Alanah spoke to the crowd about the importance of our civic engagement, particularly now since SCOTUS gutted the Voting Rights Act. But most importantly, Alanah focused on how our future lies in the hands of our next generation, our young people. Élan’, Alanah’s daughter, spoke about how critical it is for her generation to continue the fight.

Thank you to Dolfy’s for a magical final Chefs for Justice night! The outpouring of collaboration, support, and generosity from every restaurant and customer that participated this month was astounding. We cannot thank y’all enough. Your contributions will go directly to supporting those who are being abused by this immigration system. Thank you for everything you’ve done this month.

Sarah Whittington, our advocacy director, spoke at the New Orleans City Council proposed budget hearing today and pointed out the disturbing fact that it appears NOPD is getting an additional $5 million while low barrier shelters are being cut by $5 million. That fact appeared to trigger councilmember Eugene Green into a rant defending all things police and advocating for more surveillance of the public. Yes, you read that correctly. More government surveillance.
